  1. I had the 2.8crd on an 05 plate.. if it hadn't been for the thirst (<20mpg) I wouldn't have gotten rid.. fab vehicle if a little agricultural (noisy and unrefined) mine was lifted and kitted out mind
  2. That paints a very dim view of the ability of humans in general to see the two things as completely different.. my brain automatically gets my body out of the way if anything is thrown, pointed or coming towards me... its a normal human reaction and has absolutely nothing to do with my military and/or other firearms training By that argument we should be very wary of anyone having been in the armed forces... perhaps they shouldnt be allowed an FAC because they wont be able to see the difference between being in theatre and being in a rape field!?
  3. I think the inference is that if you are into paintball and/or airsoft, you are obviously a walt/have a screw loose/are a wanabee rambo and therefore should not be allowed to have a real firearm as the only reason you want a firearm is obviously for one of the aforementioned reasons!
  4. Have missed it for the past couple of years but this was an annual excursion for me.... Oh what fun... Bloody exhausting though! http://www.northvsouth.com

    Climate change

hmmm.. sounded quite sensible.... up until the point he cited 'the great flood in the middle east and Noah!' then the senility alarm went off
  6. Nothing.. it is engineered in such a way that you cant make it semi auto.. when SGC first launched these the police were all over it, the first batch were recalled and there was concern they would be deemed illegal and could be made self loading with modification, it was pointed out though that any legal weapon could be converted into a prohibited one with some modification, all it takes is intent! I had a slot on my ticket for one for a couple of years after I watched a few in action down at the Pheonix... fab things but I eventually came to the sensible conclusion that they were just big boys toys.. If I had lived closer and thought I might have got regular use out of it then that slot may have been filled but In reality it would have only come out of the cabinet once a year!

    Climate change

the fact that the climate is changing is, i feel, pretty indisputable.... anyone who denies that has thier head firmly burried in the sand. The question of what or who is to blame............ well.... I see it this way... 7 billion consumers (of varying voraciousness) burning fossil fuels in one form or another and therefore pumping trillions of tonnes of greenhouse and other gasses into the atmosphere cannot, in any way shape or form, have zero impact on our atmosphere and therefore our climate.. Are humans solely the cause... doubtful, there are much greater forces at play and climate shift is an ongoing and known phenomena on a geological scale. BUT... and it is a big BUT.... that many parasitic humans doing what humans do WILL contribute, WILL, accelerate... hell... may even tip the scales to the point of no return.. The argument that makes me laugh the most is that the ocean (or its inhabitants) produce and absorb far more CO2 than humans produce burning fossil fuel and therefore it cant be anything to do with humans.. but the oceans would do that anyway... add that to the 7bn people now polluting the atmosphere and I'm pretty sure there would be an impact greater than the norm... Its not about 'sole' cause, it's about 'contribution' and, as a rather large bunch of people.... we are going to be a rather large contributor! Put a few people in a decent sized sealed room which contains enough air for a week... now put a solitary, tiny, insignificant little candle in the corner and let it burn away so they can see........ wonder how long they would last!
  8. And boy are his guns relaxed, calm and oh so flexible! Isn't that what the glue's for?
  9. My original FAC took 7 days from interview to ticket... that's not what we are talking about... how 13 days from posting the application off or 13 days from interview?
  10. I dont care how fast they are... going from thinking of applying in the near future to having a ticket with slots in under 4 weeks.. Cleveland are one of the fastest and will even do a variation while you wait, even they couldnt manage that feat! your alleged military background is irrelevant (what regiment do you belong to again?) you are subject to the same checks done by the same people and your application will be sat in the same pile as everyone elses! And what the chuff does religion have to do with a FAC application? I was raised a catholic, perhaps I should point out that, as a catholic, I am (was... than I grew a brain!) part of a religious cult that is really, really good at war and therefore must be really really good with weapons... just look at the crusades! so you should therefore grant me whatever I want in double quick time!
  11. As an aside... .308 is enough gun for everything and anything deer wise in the UK.. some would argue that you could do with more for big reds but I would disagree.. 2.5k + ft/lbs will put anything down unless it's a. a **** shot or b. a sika.... those buggars would run if you put a tactical nuke in the boiler room! The only thing (in my humble opinion) worthy of more gun (say .300 win mag territory or a bit bigger) would be boar... nasty, vicious **** when annoyed! lol Anything else/bigger in blighty is just big boys toys and bragging rights!
  12. .308 does the job and components/ammo much more widely available than anything else in the same class
  13. dedicated apple fanboi from day one here.... until i got a galaxy s4 last year... wouldn't go back now.. even considering getting shut of the ipad and replacing it with a samsung
  14. Well... I suppose any of the Rush gigs I have been to but I have been a Rush fan boi most my life. And Seal. Other notables were Justin Timberlake & Nickleback. BUT....... Whether you like the music or not Take That put on pretty much the best show on earth... Go to one of their concerts and I guarantee you will come away with your chin trailing on the floor! I have been to 3 now, first one was as driver and under duress... I have never had a jaw dropping experience at a music concert... I had one that night and they only got better from there!

    Snipers

Already an issue, they carry thermal blankets to outwit flir
  16. Pity you arent a bit closer... I have 2 very close friends in the Teesside who are both secondary maths teachers and also do private tutoring
  17. I agree completely... never tried Hemmingway... not enough aliens or spaceships compared to my usual diet! but, I usually give up on books due to writing style rather than content... it doesnt matter how enthralling the content is, if it is annoying to read, for whatever reason, it is put down and is usually replaced by one of my core favourites.
  18. Hey... personal preference and all that.. (and, for the record I didnt mention spelling!) most books have numerous eroneous errors anyway, no matter who the author is, usually down to the typesetters, or nowadays the quality of the OCR or data input.. And... I am an end user reader, not a writer, so my spelling skills (or not) means jack! Some people would struggle to the point of not reading due to the annoyances I have raised, would you have known it was written in the first person, would you have known it was written to the standard of a 15 year old... no... It cost me 4 quid to find that out so... just giving my initial impressions and a subjective viewpoint.... Little Red Tractor is a great read.... but I fear you would be very disapointed if you bought it without reading a few words first! How much money he has made is totally irrelevant... This is MY first impressions of his writing style, nothing else..... and up to now, I'm not very impressed... I'm sure the manufacturers of Bells Whisky aren't short of a bob or two and I'm sure there are loads and loads of people out there who love it...... me...... I cant stand whisky!
  19. Well.. after really enjoying the movie and seeing this thread I thought I'd give them a go.. Have downloaded the first one 'Killing Floor' onto my Kindle and have now done the first few chapters... Have to admit, I'm struggling... I'm sure the content is great if the movie was anything to go by (haven't got to that point yet though... all a bit dull and not really hooking me!) BUT..... 2 (well, 3 actually) things that are turning me right off... 1. Its written in the 1st person... I hate books written in the first person, just personal preference but I feel it completely hamstrings the author as it makes it very difficult to get over the big picture, not impossible, just difficult and tends to lead to a lack of colour and imagery. 2. He seems to repeat things an aweful lot... He will tell you something... for example.. 'he was surprised' then a paragraph about the situation and then 'he was surprised' again... just a little annoying. 3. not overly impressed with the writing style in general... not very mature, doesnt display much pencraft or grammar skills and something I would expect from a high school student, not a professional author... Although, my usual reading choices tend to be quite cerebral and deep, so that may just be my reference point rather than anything else... however, I have read all of the Hunger Games books... struggled again with the first person viewpoint but found them far, far better written than this, even though they are aimed at kids. Now, after saying all that, this is the first book... I will give him the benefit of the doubt... he may well improve (dramatically one can only hope) as time goes on..

  22. The point here is though that, in the UK (and indeed most of the western civilised world) one is deemed inoccent unless proven guilty but what you and a few others are saying is that, if he was charged, there must have been some truth (no smoke without fire) so if he is found to be not guilty it is a case of, guilty but we couldnt prove it... In other words, your attitude undermines the entire basis of our justice system.. Whilst you are right, not all 'not guilty' defendants are innocent, we cannot look at it that way for the above reason.. by the same respect, one of the flaws with the justice system (and it extends to many other areas too) is that there is no (or very little) consequence... in other words, a woman can accuse a lover she has decided she wants to bury with pretty much anything without fear (under normal circumstances) of it biting her on the **** if he is found not guilty. This is the case accross the board, not just with sexual cases but as it is on topic and probably one of the most common 'revenge' accusations out there it makes sense to use it as an example. If a defendant is found not guilty then the case file should be firstly passed to the police so they can conduct an investigation into the allegations and, if it is found that the allegations were false, the CPS should be involved and that person prosecuted and tried... No one is saying that a 'not guilty' verdict means innocence and the accusor is lying but in such cases, it should at least be checked to make sure there is no contra evidence
