  1. I bought this beautiful Tweed Jacket from Brook Taverner last year and have only worn it maybe 3 times.. I am losing weight rapidly (now in a 46" loose and still a way to go!) and this is now way too big for me but would do someone proud. 50" Regular as new and an absolute bargain at £99 shipped. This is one of the (if not the) most expensive tweed jacket BT carry, you can see it here... http://www.brooktaverner.co.uk/jackets/tweed-jackets/cadgwith-jacket-3019.html the pictures do it far more justice than my quick snap! RRP on this is £320 but 50% discount codes are easy to come by for Brook Taverner but even at £160.. £99 still represents a bargain for a beautiful jacket. Bank transfer or paypal. Cheers Paul
  2. Guys Took delivery of my Forster Co-ax a couple of weeks ago from Optics Warehouse, it was the best deal I could find (actually in stock) and cost me £299 plus £10 delivery!.. haven't even opened the box yet! The slightly embarrassing bit is I have got my dates a bit wrong and have left myself staring at a slight cashflow issue! As I don't need this urgently I am going to sell it and order another in the coming couple of months! I'll take a hit but needs must and all that! New, unopened, will supply invoice from Optics Warehouse for any possible warranty issues.. £275 posted.. Would prefer bank transfer but will take PayPal AT THE BUYERS'S EXPENSE.. Please, no offers, any less than that and I will find another way round my short term cashflow problems.. Cheers Paul
  3. Why do these things always turn into Ray vs Bear threads? They are both reasonably good at what they do, they both know far more than the vast majority of us and would both fair far better than 99.9% of us in any given survival situation. Are they the best out there.... hell no! there will be plenty of modest, unasuming survival and bushcraft experts out there who know more, are better practiced and more skillful than either Bear or Ray... Just like there are plenty of musicians (mostly classical) who are far better musicians, both in theory and practice than 99.9% of the musical stars out there that we all follow... Just like the rock & pop stars, Bear & Ray have found fame in what they do and along with the fame, fortune but just because they are famous and rich doesn't make them the best! (or even competent in a lot of "musicians" cases!) Just take it for what it is... TV... and let's face it.. 13 blokes marooned on an island who, within 1 hour have sourced potable water, got a fire going, built a shelter and have started harvesting food whilst ensuring a great group dynamic and therefore keeping morale at its highest..... would make for pretty dull viewing! Sadly, it's in our nature to want to see misery, suffering and even death... wathching happy, succesful folk just doesn't have the same draw!
  4. To be honest.... I get very upset every time I pull the trigger on a deer.. instant remorse... but then.. I do it for a reason beyond enjoying the hunt. I have pretty much stopped shooting pigeon as I get too upset if I see a pricked bird flapping round.. And before anyone says anything, I don't see that as a weakness, I see it as part of my humanity..... when I stop feeling like that it will be time to stop shooting living creatures!
  5. Sadly the vast majority of people won't/don't studies that have been done by the military show a depressingly high percentage of failures in survival situations.. particularly when alone The killer (apart from the obvious immediate danger of dehydration) is mindset... the first thing you are trained to do is set up a routine... water collection, fuel gathering, foraging etc.. that delays or hopefully removes the feeling of hopelessness.. if that sets in, coupled with dehydration and lack of food then you are basically dead... you just sit back and give up! We shouldn't criticise them overly, they probably represent how 90% of the poulation would be... its all too easy to sit here and shout at the TV and criticise etc.. but at the end of the day, without decent training, some knowledge/skills and a very positive mindset very few of us would do any better/different and then... throw group dynamics into the melting pot and anything could happen!

    Avon skin so soft

gave up on SSS... Smidge works great.. won't stop them landing but they won't bite!
  7. Please note the loggers tape and the spyderco sharpmaker are also now sold (couldn't edit the post for some reason!)
  8. Already received, sorry mate.. got the spyderco kit on here, got a full diamond lansky set, got blade tech, got Falkeniven stones... Problem is, all the 'tool' type sharpeners are slightly different angles so if they all get used your edges suffer... need to stick with the stone types and try to keep them all at the same angle
  9. That is utter *******... for it to be classed as a pre existing condition there has to be some knowledge of said condition.. there was none therefore they cannot pull that one on you.. As an example, if I sold someone a life insurance policy who, unbeknown to them had say an aortic annurysm (usually symptomless) and then 5 years later it bursts and they die... the insurance company could not wriggle out of it based on the fact it was pre-existing! If it is worst case and they wont budge take them to the Ombudsman the chances of them finding against you are slim and it wont cost you a penny! the problem you have is that with all the PPI claims and claims companies clogging the system up, it could take the FOS 6 months to a year or more to look at your case!
  10. And saving the best to last!
  11. More Pics... The white dot is a bit of fluff.. couldn't be ***** to take more photos! lol

Canada Goose Freestyle Duck Down Gilet 2XL (perfect for a 48-50in chest or if you are 2XL M&S size) - My favourite piece of outerwear but I have dropped 2.5st since buying it and fingers crossed will have dropped another 3 by the time next winter comes round.. its already way too big for me.. Anyhoo.. wrong time of year but could do with the funds. In exellent condition with no real signs it has ever been worn! This is a £250 jacket, Canada Goose gear is expensive, it is also one of the most faked brands on the planet along with Rolex and Adidas! You cannot buy Genuine Canada Goose jackets at 50% less than RRP, just like you can't buy a genuine Rolex Submariner for £1,500... If you find any sites offering the jacket with more than £10 or £20 off, chances are its fake.. I bought it from OneBelowZero after checking the Canada Goose Site for approved online retailers... Anyway, as we are heading into summer yours for £99 plus 12 P&P. Pics will follow here and in the next few posts... Cheers Paul

    24

As a confirmed 24 fanboi..... once did seasons 1-6 straight with just a couple of hours sleep a night for 3 nights... I have to admit I was slightly disappointed! Poor script, same story line as pretty much every other season, ropey acting and everyone is just looking a little too old now! And what is going on with Chloe all gothed up!? (perhaps that's the standard uniform for hackers!) shes in her 40s not her late teens!... she looks like my mum made up like Dracula for a Halloween fancy dress party.. Overall, really not impressed... a fantastic TV show let down a little by a poor 8th season... They should have just left it to fade into loving distant memories with the images from 2, 4 & 6 burning brightly in the fans minds! instead, they are risking (if things don't get a lot better fast) condemning it to the **** bin!
  14. I'll have it Steve.. pm me your bank or paypal details Cheers Paul
  15. listening to it right now on yt
  16. In my experience that is a very rare beast indeed... Solicitors don't deal with conveyancing any longer, those whos firms do offer conveyancing services employ staff to do that sort of thing or have licenced conveyancers to do the work.. Too much faff and too little money to command the actual attention of a qualified solicitor.. So.. which ever way you do it... Licenced conveyacer, specialist lawfirm, family solicitor... chances are you will actually be dealt with by staff/conveyancers and not Solicitors...
  17. Sadly, due to the new industry regulator being a much bigger dog with much sharper teeth combined with the information commissioner wanting a much tighter lid on personal information going where it shouldn't, companies in the financial sector have to do everything by the book and ithe process is recorded in the vast majority of cases.. You stopped him going through security (confirming your details) so of course he won't give you any information. A data protection breach could close a company down... yes, it is now looked upon as that serious. If you had let him finish doing what he needed to do to clear security you would have got your quote.. PITA I know but thats the world we now live in
  18. With a caviat re construction... remember, non standard construction will not only limit your mortgage options but could seriously affect resale... unless you plan to live there forever and arent interested in its future value from an inheritance point of view... that 55% discount will mean diddly if you cant shift the ****** down the line or have to sell it at rock bottom to get rid! Had one last wek... mortgaged in the heyday, healthy discount on a right to buy... brick over steel so not a defective build but now only a handful of lenders will look at it and when we went for valuation it was downvalued massively so they are effectively stuck there now until the market doubles!!!! (probably not in my lifetime! sadly I dont live in London or the South East)
  19. I think there's a better than even chance rates are going to go up... Sooner rather than later, they certainly ain't coming down... Beware the 2 year fixed rates, they aren't much cheaper than longer offerings, are over a pointlessly short time and are pushed by mortgage advisers so that they can turn you over again in 2 years.... And then 2 years later and then 2 years later... Kaching!
  20. Under the new Mortgage Market Review rules there is no such thing as independent/non independent, it's either advised or non advised and will be from a comprehensive panel of lenders, a limited panel/1 lender (ala the banks) or all lenders... be prepared to pay a steep fee for advice from anyone who offers to look at all lenders, there are some banks/building societies out there that dont pay any fees to the broker and he has to make a living somehow! Don't go and see an IFA... (you wouldn't go and see a doctor about a toothache, sure, they will have studied teeth etc at med school but dentistry is s specialism!) most IFAs dont have a clue about mortgages, they deal in investments, look for a mortgage broker (a specialist!) and preferably one on a recomendation from friends/family. Any decent, self respecting broker will (needs to) charge a fee nowadays, dont pay more than £300 though and personally, I would avoid those who dont charge a fee, after all, you get what you pay for and mortgage advice is no different. Dont bother with the banks, for starters they will only tell you what they have and you will more than likely be dealt with by counter staff on a non-advised basis, not a professionally qualified mortgage broker. As has been said, you'd be mad not to snap thier hands off with a 55% discount and the difference between market value and your discounted purchase price can be taken as deposit in full so no need to stump up cash. There will be a period where you won't be able to sell as Mungler sugested, it is normally 5 years but does differ from authority to authority, some are as low as 2 years, none in my greater geographical area are more than 5. Fruity also made a valid point... quite a lot of council stock is of a non standard construction... some types will never get financing (concrete slab construction is the most obvious and is on the defective building register... the slab is run through with re-bar, that corrodes, swells and the slabs fall off!) Other quite commonm types may severely restrict who will be interested, a common one is brick over steel frame... not an issue to get a mortgage but will knock 75%+ of lenders out of the game... anyhoo... easiest thing to do before you start splashing out on surveys is to ring the local authority and ask if they can tell you exactly what the construction type is, at least you will then be fore armed when you sit down with your broker. As for not listening to any advice on here... I agree... mostly...... although I would like to think that 20 years as a mortgage broker has given my ramblings a modicum of creedence!
  21. I have the 1ltr ghillie.. wife bought it for me for my birthday a couple of years ago, been used a couple of times but it just hangs in the shed mostly... I have an MSR Dragonfly (great for longer expeditions,) the Ghillie and an Optimus Crux... the Crux will leave the house with me before anything else.... yes the ghillie can boil water fast but I could have boiled 20 litres of water, cooked me a full english and heated some water to wash up in the time you have collected enough dry fuel for the ghillie (try it when its ******* down and you are desperate for a brew!) Ghillie is lovely and relaxing yes, but not very portable, a pain to fuel in too many situations, a fire risk, particularly in FC forests (dont let the ranger catch you.) However, when the zombie apocalypse is upon us and I have to retreat to live in a hole in the woods, it will be the Ghillie kettle that comes with me! lol If I was in the market for a portable wood fueled stove I would probably look at the offerings from the bushcraft world, Biolite etc... although the whole charging your phone thing is a bit OTT and uneccessary. @ Leadwasp.... I never leave the house (even to go to the office) without my firesteel and swiss army knife! just habit..
  22. i have a 2007 vector 1.9Tid auto.. no issues with it at all, does 56mpg on a run and almost 40 town driving.. lovely and comfy, plenty of power, doesnt inspire confidence in the corners mind.. Cant really fault it although it is just transport, cant seem to connect with it on a personal level like i have with previous motors, perhaps its just because its... ordinary... Bargains to be had though, I picked mine up (interior face lift version) privately with 70k for £3.5k!
  23. My heater resistor went 3 times in 4 years, simple 25 quid self fix... I did suffer the rear diff/axle issues though, thankfully it was still within warranty otherwise it would have been a 4-5k issue!!!! had an injector go down early on and then again just before I sold it, another potentially expensive repair but at the end of the day.... 850 quid for a very capable little 4x4
