  1. I used to shoot a pond local to me, I used a wheely bin with the cabela's automatics feeder rigged on it. Inside the bin it had 4 pieces of ply attached at an angle to allow the feed to slide down, and it was raised on 3 legs, a mate gave me the use of it. The timer was set to run just before dark. I used barely to keep costs down, and we had a few good nights shooting. Nutty
  2. Ive been lucky enough this week to get a 5 month old springer. The pup has had a fairly rough time and was given up by its owner after the breeder heard about its plight. Now it has never been in a kennel apart from being born, this leads me to ask this question as Ive also been lucky enough to be given a spare kennel to house him in as my wife's lab bitch is 9 months old and I just dont want to run the risk of missing her 1st break-down, and then there is the house pet a bitch Springador. Has anybody had experiance of kenneling an older pup thats been used to a house? And does anybody have any tips? A young pup is no bother and it normally settles down after a day or 2 but Ive never had to try and kennel an older pup thats the reason for me asking. cheers Nutty
  3. They are expensive to feed with shop bought fodder!! As for home laods expect a home load to set you back around a quidish, and if you use heavy shot a bit dearer. As for how much you use it, if you think thats an issue then dont buy 1 if your having doubts. when i loaded for my old zababla I ran and 1 3/4oz of heavy shot and 2 1/2oz of lead (Im in scotland) out of each barrel. Dont try and compare a 10 bore to a 12 bore 31/2" as most 10 bores have 3 1/2" chambers and are totally different animals. By all means shoot squirrels with it if you want, I shot skeet with mine twice much to amusement of all the on lookers that came out of the club house!! Ill tell you something though when I hit a clay there wasnt even hardly a puff of smoke from it. If you want any loading info Pm me and Ill happily help. If you do decided to go down this route then all I can add is enjoy the experiance as it is a fantastic gauge to shoot. cheers john
  4. Just spoke to Gamebore just now. They are giving me 250 cartridges to replace the shells I have, and are looking in to why the shot which is in my loads got there in the 1st place and past their quality control. I must applaude gamebore for their customer service and acknowleging there was a fault. Nutty
  5. An update. Ive emailed pictures of the shot to Gamebore yesterday (as they requested). Ive had a email back confirming theyve got the pictures and saying they will get back to me asap. nutty
  6. I likes Grants of grantown on spey. Stornoway is nice but a bit too crumbly, Ive even made my own!!!! Black Pudding I also used this company whilst making Venison Sausages, and haggis from the Deer lights!!!! nutty
  7. Ive been looking at x-trails and the Kia sportage with a view to buy 1 in the future. Fuel economy is top of my list and both seem good and look to do around 40mpg combined, and nudging 45mpg on a run. This is similar to my old 2.2d Frontera I used to have. nutty
  8. No call from Gamebore today!!! Ive just bought a slab of Eley Hi-flyers they cost the same as the Clear Pigeon. Ive also opened 1 to see if there is any difference in the shot as they are both 6's, and it is totally different!!! The Eley Cartridge has more uniformed shot in size and shape. Even my wife and daughter commented on the difference!! This has put serious doubts in my mind now. Ive used pure gold in the past and thought they were good, Ive also used Gamebore 3" cartridge's and found them reliable. But this is not a good quality cartridge it looks as if theyve almost used the sweepings of the loading bench.. Cheers for the input lads. As i know anybody can have an off day but when 2 others have tried the Clear Pigeon I have and the same has happened to them, I dont think its coincedence. And this isnt 1 day i had its been over 2 or 3 shoots for me!! nutty
  9. Not too far, some are walked up and some are driven but not too high due to the nature of our ground. nutty
  10. 30g fibre. Theyve been put through 4 different guns, my 686 special game 1/4 and 1/2, my old winchester 3/8 and 5/8 a laurona with open chokes and another 686 with 1/4 and 3/4 chokes each time the same result. Ive gave them to others to try as I thought the same as you regarding speed or down to me not giving enough lead. nutty
  11. Has anyone else been having a problem with Clear pigeon New generation cartridges not giving clean kills? I bought 250 in August after reading the good reports about them on here. Now after using about 2 boxes and giving some to other lads to try to make sure it wasnt me at fault. Over the last 2 shoots at my wee syndicate tha Im in, Ive shot 1 woodcock, 8 Pheasants and 2 Mallard (not over a pond). And only killed a Pheasant and a Woodcock the rest which were picked have all had to be dispatched. The birds which I brought home and plucked have all had plenty of pellet strikes over the body but werent dead (I marked birds so I new which 1's to pick). On Sat I cut a cartridge open and discovered the shot was different sizes it looked as if they were 6's and 5's. I have this evening contacted Gamebore and I'm waiting on a return call tomorrow. cheers nutty

  15. There are good numbers building steadily over the last 2 weeks, around the A9 between Dunblane and Perth. i dont think itll be too long before the numbers will start building a bit farther south. Nutty
  16. I had springers all my life mate and never had a problem with 1 picking up a goose or sitting put on the shore or hide. But then again I never bought a small trialing sized dog, my Springers were all big well built dogs as Ess's go. At present I have a Springador which is 4 year old she was trained for the gun but never finnished as I gave up a couple of years ago. She has the drive of a spaniel but at the same time she is as laid back as a Lab. Today I took her out to see if she would take to the gun as I never tried her before. No probs she done that well myself and my wife fired around a 100 shells at the clay ground, tomorrow finds her 1st day on the field. My wife has 6 month old lab in the kennel which she is training and to be honest she is a nightmare compared to any Spaniels or the Springador that I have trained. BTW whilst most will advocate a Lab for fowling and a hide and a Spaniel for working, I have never put that train of thought with any dog choice. I went fowling 90% of the time and my Spaniel was as happy as a pig in ______. Its all down to how you train the dog. Train it to hunt and it will hunt, train it to sit and itll sit. ALLdogs have an instinct to hunt, it is as I said down to how you harness that, and that will determine the end result you get. Good luck and buy what you are comfy with. Oh and bear this in mind when you come to buy a pup. The dog will pick you, dont go rushing in and grab the bold dog, or the dog that sits at the back. Make the decision before you go either dog or bitch. Ask to get the other sex out away and enjoy the moment, it wont be long before a pup will catch your eye. If it comes to you walk away a short distance and see if it follows you, normally 1 or 2 will but only 1 will stand out in the crowd and you will know it. Good luck when the time comes and enjoy each and every minute. cheers nutty
  17. Not at all, I gave my FAC and SGC up a couple of years ago, I now have my SGC back and Ive been told since I gave up my FAC volentarily there shouldnt be a problem getting it issued again either. nutty
  18. Give Nigel at teague a call he will sort you out. He helped me with my XTR cheers john
  19. I had the 3" model and it never missed a beat. Great guns, I hope you have fun with it. nutty
  20. :good: :good: cheers Nutty
  21. Cheers again for the replies. Im going to get out and try focusing on the clay and let instinct take over, and get back out on the local skeet shoot. I am getting myself seriously down over this and I am contemplating selling my XTR sporter and just getting myself a decent SxS and forgeting the clays altogether, but thats going to be the last ditch resort. cheers Nutty
  22. Thanks for the input lads. Picking out what i can relate to from the replies there is 2 or 3 reasons that seem to be very close. 1. A couple of times Ive thought my eye dominace had moved whilst shooting as Ive seen done the side of the rib. I have checked my eye dominance on returning home and a couple of days later and it did seem OK. 2. Trying to hard, and focusing on the gun/bead to get it right. This may be causing point 1 to a certain degree. 3. Again due to trying to hard Im not getting the correct Kill point every time, when Im missing I do try either to take the bird quicker or slower to try and hit it, and as stated this would affect the amount of lead. All interesting food for thought and practise. cheers Nutty
