  1. Nice idea, but I've decided to go for one of these to add some realistic movement to my setup. Q :yp:
  2. You might want to talk to the National Game Dealers Association on 01325-316320. They should have a list of dealers in your area. Q :yp:
  3. If anyone is interested the general licence can be seen here. Q :yp:
  4. Wayne, this might help explain things, Quote from BASC website: Q :yp:
  5. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll give your ideas a go. Crowman, welcome to the forum :yp: Q
  6. red_stag88, tell me more :yp: how did you set it up? Did you use any other decoys? Where did you use it? Did you use a call? Q
  7. The Game Licences Act does include rabbits, although they are not classed as game under the act. There are many exemptions regarding the taking of rabbits. Basically if you are the land owner, tenant, owner of the shooting rights or have authorisation from one of these people you are exempt from the need to have a game licence. These exemptions only apply to rabbits and in some cases hares. The only time you could be prosecuted for taking rabbits without a game licence is if you do not have permission to be on the land, effectively poaching. Q
  8. Thanks Leon, I think it must be the movement that makes a difference. I've tried mine in all sorts of situations but just don't seem to get a mobbing response . Last summer, shooting on a cut hay meadow, I put a dead fox under my whirler with a couple of rooks on it. The black ******* went mad for it great sport. I'd like to be able to recreate that sort of response. Q
  9. Has anyone ever had any real success using these for rooks/crows? I've tried them several different times and it really doesn't seem to make any great difference if it's there or not Anyone got any hints or tips? Q
  10. Anyone seen one of John Bidwell's exhibitions. Now there's a man who can shoot from the hip Q
  11. Possibly leon, but the quality of the beam is first class and they don't weigh anything. I use a 170 on my .22 but only because I primarily got it for my foxing rifle. I can't say that I've ever found it cumbersome or awkward. If I wanted one just for a rimfire I would probably go for a 140. Q
  12. I don't think you can beat Lightforce lamps, a bit pricey but well worth it. Q
  13. Thanks Gary a couple of top class articles there. Q
  14. If the keeper doesn't trust you, and has any say in who shoots, you will very soon be down the road The main reason for this type of shooting restriction is fear of the birds being disturbed. Sometimes this is justified other times not. The keeper has put a great deal into producing birds for a few days shooting, so better safe than sorry. Q
  15. You will be able to get something quite decent for £100 Try Deben, or take a tip to Clusons shop at Petersfield PM me if you need any more info. Q
  16. Charlie Parkes and John Thornley should know what they are talking about. LINK Q
  17. They're growing more rape here than they ever have. Generally it falls into two catagories; the stuff that went in just before we had a shower, which is storming away, and the stuff that went in a couple of days later, which is very patchy and will probably be pulled up in the Spring. The pigeons here are just starting to flock up and take an interest in the rape. One of the lads had 83 on Sunday. Q
  18. Currently my game dealer pays 60p for rabbits, guts in, shotgun or rifle shot. Through the year the price varies between 40p and 60p. In the Spring and early Summer clean killed rabbits will make about 80p. Several people I know sell their rabbits privately, skinned and paunched, for between £1 and £1.75. A lot of people buy them for pet food. Local butchers can present a good market if you are able to guarantee a regular supply of good quality bunnies. Q
  19. Will, thank you for your reply. The flapper was purchased from a local gun shop a couple of months ago. They said that they were having problems moving it and offered it to me at a discount as I give them a fair bit of trade, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. The version that I have is the twelve volt. I had no idea that there was an alternative. As I said I do use it occasionally, mainly for rooks on a floater, for which it works fine. I did try it on a magnet but found the weight of the flapper plus pigeon to be excessive. Also fixing the battery so that the leads do not wrap themselves up was tricky to say the least. Thank you for your kind offer of a motor upgrade. The fast version sounds like it will be just what I was looking for. Q
  20. I have a Shooters Discount Warehouse flapper. Don't really like it but still use it occasionally. It doesn't impart as much movement as I would like, just a bit of up and down. Certainly doesn't give the rapid flashing of white wing bars that the speil claims Definately not worth the money in my opinion  Q
  21. and don't live in Scotland  Will you be running Lemmy on the big stuff YP? Q
  22. Deer Act 1991 section 4(1b) It is an offence to use any trap, snare, poisoned or stupefying bait or any net to kill or take any deer. Q
