Just had a look at the River Cottage Forum. The interesting mix of Good Lifers, tree huggers and seemingly genuine country folk, makes for some interesting threads Q

I used to find the bloke vaguely amusing until I saw this quote under the redleg pic. Somebody ought to take the bloke out and educate him as to what shooting sports are really about. Q
-
I'd probably buy some. Q

Cranfield, my thoughts exactly. Q :o

But wasn't it Tony Bliar who wanted the ban to be implemented after the election in the first place? No wonder he's happy not to contest the request for a delay. Q :o

Ears, you are quite right shooting is indeed next. Quotes taken from the Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs report. These are the people who are advising the Government on new legislation Q
-
Leon, what is the rest of it? Q
-
I'd be surprised if there wasn't. For information and contact details of a hunt near you have a look here. Q

Sounds good to me Teal, about time too. So long as this means we don't become too politically correct or sanctimonious. Q

Best wishes Pieman  Q

Milo, you might find some useful info on this site. Q

We pay £20 for beaters, £25 for pickers up and beaters with a good dog. This seems to be about the going rate locally. I did hear of one shoot that allegedly pays £40 A couple of places give the lads hot food at lunch time, which is a nice touch if you can do it. Our regular beaters also get as much pigeon and vermin shooting as they want. If they fancy comming lamping or stalking they are always more than welcome. Q

Looks like a nice piece of kit Pete, I'm sure you would be able to sell them. I've seen a couple of similar homemade rests but nothing as tidy as yours. Apparently the Aussies use them a fair bit. I have one of THESE, and no I didn't pay anywhere near that much for it  Q

I have just bought a new computer and upgraded my conection to broadband. My new machine runs Windows XP, which tells me that it has its own firewall protection built in. I was wondering, is this firewall really any good or should I consider buying some dedicated software? What do you all use and recommend? Q :(

Deako, how long are the sound loops on your little box of tricks? Are the sound files available seperately? Q
-
Bloody hell, that was quick Q
-
I've played with them a bit. I started off making my own from the instructions on Predator Masters. If you have a sound source like an MP3 player or CD Walkman you can put one together for about £30. Worked well, but wanted something with a remote, so after a lot of research bought a Foxpro. Yes they do, but they are no magic wand. You still need to pay attention to the usual things like wind direction, movement cover, etc. The one major advantage of using an electronic call is the ability to use sounds that you would not be able to normally use, which is great in areas that are heavily called. If you are going to build one from scratch it would be worth looking at including the ability for the user to put their own sounds on to it. This greatly increases the verstility of the caller. Q

Thanks webber If your paying that sort of money it really needs to be spot on. Q
-
Got to agree William, trouble is with stories like this one around, it seems some are doing the antis work for them. Q
-
webber What specifically did you not like about the Hayhouse? I've never seen one in the flesh, but they seem like a good idea. Q

Mike Well done for contacting your MP :yp: I expect the reason he failed to give you a positive yes or no answer is that he did not vote at all, as far as I can see. How did your MP vote I would contact him again to find out why he was not in the Commons on the 15th and exactly where his sympathies lie on this issue. Make it very clear to him that you will not be voting for him in the future if he doesn't support peoples right to hunt. Q

Best wishes YP Have a good one :yp: Q
