  1. once shes out , even after if she runs a marathon, i still cant get any control untill shes back on the lead and in the garden, ( my gardens not small , must be 40 yards by 20 yards put to grass, ) all the training we do is off the lead , only use the lead to and from the park , farm , etc. yes , hard as nails , fears nothing , when i try to tell her NO , she just barks at me and makes her stand.
  2. ive got a one year old sproker called beau. when we are in my garden doing some light training shes fine, sits and stays close up and at distance , sits and stays at distance and will come back to me on the return whistle. sits , stays , goes for a retrieve , comes back , holds the dummy till i take it. she will always sit when told. when we are out walking on a lead ( slip type, ) she will sit , and stop with the stop whistle, no problem. NOW for the good bit. as soon as we are up the park , or the farm , or in the woods , SHES OFF, and no matter what type of whistling or shouting will get her to come back untill shes ready .getting really frustated now, am i expecting too much for a one year old. has anybody got any ideas. cheers.
  3. my 8 month old sprocker " beau" she sits, stays , comes back to the whistle. shes heard a 12 bore , no problems. just started steadiness to thrown dummys, happy days.
  4. when i decided to get a working dog , i was recommended by others on here to buy the book " TRAINING SPANIELS" - written by JOE IRVING, i have found it to be really good and it seems to be written for people like me who have never trained a dog before. my sprocker " BEAU " is now 8 months old and coming on really well. I have just started to train some steadiness to the thrown dummy - early days but lots of fun. get the book its helping me.
