  1. A freind of mine bought 10,000 of them for his clay shoot, and he's having the same problem. A horrible waxy stuff forms a few inches from the end of the chamber. He reckoned solvents wouldn't touch it but firing a few boxes of plas wad's got rid of it. Rob
  2. I borrowed a Bowman junior and put 4 boxes of clays through it, no problems, it threw single standards a good distance and was easily operable by no-tails. I think they go for £120? Rob

    Zinc Pellets

Not sure about AG pellets but I read somewhere that in tests, zinc shotgun pellets proved more toxic than lead. Rob
  4. Is the ground hard to find? I was shooting near there on saturday and could hear the shots but never saw a sign. Rob
  5. They take some killing I'll grant you that. The worst place for flatflies in a game larder after a grouse day. West Nile Virus is likely to be the next big bad thing, I thought it was mozzies that spread it from birds to humans? There was a case recently of a guy who topped himself after developing severe depression after contracting Lyme's. Not nice at all. Rob
  6. I've never shot basil with SG's but I got a box ages ago and had some fun shooting at a thick wooden headboard on a old trailer and a couple of squirrel dreys. I use Alphamax 3's for sheep or a Frost's clipper knife. SG's are supposed to be good for Wild Boar or other large stuff out to 35 yards. Rob
  7. Excellent. There was a warning on NOBS about antis posing as legit beaters and getting RV points and times and then turning up and sabbing. I'm thinking of posting a rogue RV in the middle of the impact area on the Army ranges, 10 minutes before firing starts, some 155's and mortars would soon fettle them! Rob
  8. Sundays are best for me, is the plan to go to Steve Smith's? Rob
  9. 3 now, I'm always up for batting a few clays. Rob

    rizzini

I had a E. Rizzini 20b side-plate. It shot very well but the second trigger pull was only 1/4 lb (adjusted up to 4lb by gunsmith) and the trigger stood proud of the guard at the side. I got rid of it when it started the habit of firing both barrels at the same time. Rob
  11. Nice to see another GWP out and about. Here's our two and one of our pointers. Rob
  12. Le Chameau's every time. Tried cheapies, hunters, aigles and argylls. None are a patch on the camels. Having said that I normally prefer proper boots, Meindl Douvre Extreme's with goretex gaiters. Rob
  13. Tootling around we get 31 mpg :yp: out of our L200 Trojan diesel, if its going off-road or motorway blasting it drops to 26mpg or less . The motoring mags are really rating the Trojan as a bargain buy at the moment, brand new they are going for around £13,000, just because the new shape L200 is out. Plenty of room for the dogs in the back as well! Cheers, Rob
  14. I'd go for Wire's, our 2 are OK around other dogs (but not strange cats!) and can stand any amount of weather and cover. Like Browning says though, there are temperament problems with some lines, so if you're after one, get some advice from gwp owners. While capable of doing both, most owners use their wires for either birds or deer, as doing deer can make them a bit hard mouthed. If its a correct coat, it will only need stripping (not clipping as this would knacker it) occasionally and is fairly tight and coarse, doesn't tangle and is very waterproof. Our 2 gather as much muck as our 'english' pointers, and definitely less than our springers. Rob
  15. I was out on the Tweed this morning, came home with clean barrels (inside anyhow) and a very dirty spaniel. The annoying thing is I was under a pigeon flightline but couldn't shoot them as its wildfowl and waders only on the permit Still it was great to be out again. Rob
  16. Cheers for that LG, I'll head down and have a blatter at some point as our local club is off until October. Rob
  17. What are the prices like at Dinnington? I've heard a few folk say its a good ground with a more relaxed atmosphere than Bywell. Rob
  18. We give our oldies a mix of glucosamine and MSM, its called Arthri-aid. These products are scientifically proven to reduce pain and inflamation of arthritic joints in humans. In addition we got the vet to prescribe us a big bottle of Metacam, which we give them whenever they are sore after a hard day or in cold weather etc. We get our Arthri-aid online, but you can get the human stuff from Tesco's, which is fine to give to dogs. Rob
  19. We use a Leica and its a great piece of kit, works day and night. Some of the cheaper, non-laser ones work on focusing two seperate images, which is fiddly and not too accurate. The really cheap ones rely on focusing on an object of fixed height, like a golf pin, these are completely useless for hunting. Rob

    ANTI`S

I'd like to think I'm fairly handy but when faced with 35 anti's with baseball bats and bits of wood I'm afraid I'd let discretion be the better part of valour and head for the car....then run as many over as I could. Not really relevant but heres a tale from my past. A mate of mine was number one on the antis hit list, pictured on the cover of their rag 'Howl', death threats, etc. We were very anti anti's using an old landy to push their minibuses into ditches, filling their cars full of guts, giving the ring leaders a pasting etc, it all came to a head when a load of anti's ambushed him with a 'road block'. Anyhow, to cut a long story short, he just put his foot down and pushed his way to safety in his car, trapping one of the heavies tween his car and their transit, legs squished, the works. Suffice to say after that we never saw any antis again. Rob
  21. Excellent mate. I'll give it a go having a fair pile of random bits of meat in the deep freeze. Rob
  22. Stunning pic mate. It looks like a Goshawk to me, had a great view of one today while out with the dogs, the crows didn't like it one little bit. Rob
