He has withdrawn his appeal against conviction. Nice to see he sacrificed his principles at the end, just so he could go home. I think some of the parents feel that there was more to it than just this man. Now he has withdrawn, there is no obstacle to granting his freedom, other than someone with a brain cell, also in touch with public opinion, who can say - NO.

Peter - I took the bait and had a run over today. I was quoted £115 for Express and £125 for Fiocchi 28grm - 7 1/2s. Aaron said he had some cheap Express or Fiocchi for £117 per 1000. I prefer Fiocchi - so plumped for them. £8 cheaper than I was expecting. Nice bloke and the shop looks smart, albeit still being stocked. I will return. Thanks. I do enjoy shopping when I don't feel that I am getting ripped off. It does make a difference. I will tell my friends. B)

If you use clay cartridges - forget home loading. It only makes sense as the last poster has stated - you use larger shot sizes.

I have shot both, but would chose the Winchester - far less recoil. Better still - get a mint SX2 for half the price of the other two. Mark Sw had one - replaced it with a Beretta Teknys and has had to endure jam after jam, corrosion on the receiver etc.

Get to Bamfords at Eccleston or McAvoys at Standish, Malmo at Bay Horse - best places to get guns in Northwest. For that sort of money, you can get an excellent gun - Miroku etc. As for trying guns - Shaw and Crompton GC is small and friendly. Rishton GC is on every week and more helpful people you will not find. If you go, ask Eddie Threlfall (he owns it) to put you with a group of shooters. Tell them you don't know what sort of gun to get. The world and his wife will be saying "try this". Shooters are just about the most helpful sportsmen I have come accross.

There have been a couple of threads recently which got a bit heated. The people who started the thread have held their hands up and apologised. I have to say that I am not sure any apology was asked for or warranted. Nonetheless, they went up in my estimation because they held their hands up. Well done to the people concerned. Bigger men than many.

silpig5 - you must be more careful with your keyboard. when you said you merely backed up Mikee - you "cast a view". Mikee's was an ill-judged and silly post. I would have hoped that people might have thought better, having seen some of the tripe posted.

On what planet do dog licences actually work? They are as much use as a chocolate fireguard. silpig5 - good to have an unbiased view? You will have to run that past me again. Biased in the extreme from where I sit. Mungler has summed it up in a nutshell. Why do we persist in posting stupid remarks about dog breeds, when the problem is clearly the owners. Beats me.

I find the thread pointless. Staffies took stick on the last thread. Don't blame the dogs, what about the owners. My dogs are behind a locked gate and 6 feet wall, not in someone's house. When people blame the breed because some idiots own them it has come to rock bottom.

Beretta - Middle Farm Bredbury was run by the Barlow brothers who were farmers. Nice people, but they had a number of silly noise complaints from people living miles away. considering that it was under the flight path for Manchester Airport, it was a joke. Won my first trophy - a third at Middle Farm in 1982. I used to do the rounds at Blakelow, Holmfirth, Bobbin Mill, Edgeworth, Buxton - the one in the quarry, Doveholes Buxton, Atherton, Rixton, Rishton, Star Gun Club at Lymm, Catton Hall, Craughton GC at Chester, Sabden GC, Shaw and Crompton, Rochdale GC, Charlesworth GC, the Grouse, Little Mill,A6, Hodnet and many many more. Long time ago.

Nial - point taken, but the stats don't give numbers of each breed which are owned. It might well be that the dogs with the most attacks are the most popular. For the record, I own Akitas, but have been bitten by a Collie. My dogs have been attacked by Collies, Labradors, Doberman and the odd Staffy. I don't know why and all suffered the same fate.

I always thought Quarnford was a decent shoot - shame.

I bought one of these - 28" half choke - brand new from Trapshot in Stourbridge in the early eighties. Never had a problem with cartridges, never had a jam or any repair at all. The gun was too light for me and I didn't like the pistol grip, but these are just personal to me. Overall - I remain impressed.

The dogs concerned - no problem - put them down. A lot of scrotes do have Staffies, but don't knock the whole breed. A French woman had her face ripped off by a Labrador. Many other breeds have been involved in attacks - Collies, Rotties, Jack Russells - where do you stop? I have two Akitas - the pup is ten stone, but I would not trust any dog with a young child and they don't get off a lead unless there is no-one within eyesight. This incident is clearly distressing, but blame the owners and the Police, if they fail to act properly. Any dog, left untrained, unsupervised, could do a lot of damage. The people who say "my dog has never bitten anyone" are right until their dog bites someone for the first time. There is no guarantee with any dog whatsoever.

Get a Miroku Teagued, with an adjustable comb. That way you can make it fit you. There are enough of them about for reasonable money. Trap guns tend to have a higher comb and weigh slightly more. I shoot sporting with trap guns anyway, but get which ever feels right. You could get a Browning XT which has been Teagued - also mainly adjustable comb.

Older Berettas - no jams and no problems. Beretta Teknys - forever jammimg and corrosion problems on receiver. Benelli - light, no problems except for recoil. Remington 1100 - occasional jam, but the best handling auto, bar none. Expect incoming.

Mr Potter - got to agree about Rixton. Last time I went 2 years ago - I was stood in the doorway of the cabin, waiting to book in, when a clay came straight through the side window. Glass everywhere. Absolute lunacy.

Jay Totally agree about Bond and Bywater. They used to run a decent shop when they were on the roundabout. Last time I was in there, the stock looked on its last legs. Some truly tenth rate guns and a less than customer orientated attitude. Also agree about Malmo - nice people to deal with. Bought my Guerini from them, when I went to buy a Miroku.

Cold Springs at Buxton, the Grouse at Glossop - not recommended, Little Mill at Rowarth, the Boar at Tintwistle - recommended.
