  1. Take the choke out when you've finished flighting and use your old bag?...other than that choose any that you can just wash down as they only get wet through and covered in mud! atb...Dale.
  2. I'm with you on this one, I cant see the point, unless, as someone said earlier, you already own one but if you also own a 12g...it seems a bit pointless!...mind you, after saying that, I did shoot a 80yd "pinkfoot" last season with a 2" fourten and when I picked it up there was a pound of mushrooms under it!!
  3. Good scores on the pedigree does'nt ensure your pup wont be affected...most sensible folk wont breed from dogs which have bad faults as most want to keep a pup from their litter. atb...Dale.
  4. Ive actually seen his face Graham when he hit one, to be honest its not a pretty site at the best of times but when he hit that wigeon and it made it across to the other side of Mallard creek, his facial expression was similar to someone who had dropped a tenner and found a pound!!...seeing a grown man cry will haunt me for the rest of my wildfowling days!!..I was told it took 3 weeks for the swelling to go down on "Ping Pongs" ****!! anyway hope you and Phil are ok and look forward to seeing you both again this season. best wishes...Dale.
  5. What a lot of people forget about pattern testing is; what strikes the pattern plate does'nt reach the Bird/Clay in the same pattern, unless its either flying away from you or directly towards you at same height as your guns barrels. When using a very tight choke this invariably creates a much longer shot-string, so if you are shooting a crossing / quartering / rising target not all the shot will reach the target at the same time, especially if any distance is involved so therefore what you see on your pattern-plate will not be arriving at your target!! Now then, an example, just food for thought; we shoot full choke at a 30" circle at 40yds on a pattern-plate and find that ALL the pellets are inside it!!....obviously, we've created a shot-string by tightening the choke, so...when looking at the now perfect pattern which we've all been trying to achieve for years, how do we know which pellets struck the plate first and which where last?...lets say that the 50% 0f pellets in the centre of the pattern where the last ones to hit the plate (which might be correct)...we are therefore shooting a perfect looking pattern on a plate, which has in reality a massive hole in the centre when it reaches the target!.. the trailing shot then fills this hole when it finally catches up, a few thousandths of a second later? After reading the above, then it begs the question; IS THERE SUCH A THING AS A...GOOD / BAD PATTERN? this is not a challenge to anyone, just food for thought. best wishes....Dale.
  6. If I've not got one before the season starts I'll go down that route, I can always sell it if a Remmy comes along! thanks for the reply, atb...Dale.
  7. Yeh I noticed that myself but when I contacted them, they said they'd sold it and didnt realise that the ad was still on their site, many thanks though for trying to help. atb...Dale.
  8. yeh I think you're right Mat, I'm going to contact Okehampton guns as a chap told me they could get him one in appx 10 days?...I'll give them a bell in the morning, see what they say..called at Bob's the other night and had me dinner with them, I was casting an eye over his Browning...like he said, whilst I've been dragging me feet for a Remmy, I've missed a couple of good deals on Brownings....one had fired less than 200 rnds= £775 ovno nevermind! I noticed in the Fenlands AGM letter that you'd submitted your joining fee, well done!....I've no doubt that you Bob and myself will have a few outings together in the new season, looking forward to it, by the way "Brownies" joined Spalding again. ATB....Dale. PS...Bob says you've got enough empty 10g cases to last you next 10years!!
  9. would prefer the 26" camo/synthetic model but any considered, cheers....Dale.
  10. Where's the difference in pulling your hand out of a pocket or pulling it out of a mitten...milleseconds?...I have a couple of zippo hand warmers and I was told a useful tip last year by a hiking enthusiast!...he told me to extend the cord on the hand- warmer bag and hang it around your neck and down the front of your clothes next to your skin, that way you get all the advantage of the heat it generates and it never cools, where as, when its in your pocket the heat is lost until you put your hand back in, and constantly putting your hand in and out makes the pocket get cold each time, I did try it and it keeps you warm as toast in the coldest of conditions, I bought the second warmer to combat my hand problem. best wishes...Dale.
  11. I like yourself, struggle with cold hands, and struggle to keep them warm, I've not done my hands any favours as I have Boxed for many years and not looked after my hands properly and now suffer quite bad in winter / damp weather so I have done a bit of research on various sites including extreme weather sports and everyone says that when it comes to keeping your hands warm "mittens" are by far the best!...cold air circulates individual wrapped fingers ie gloved ones and prevents them warming, where as, when they are placed inside a mitten this cannot happen, if you look at skiers, Artic explorers and the like you'll see that they all have mittens on usually connected around their neck with some cord so when you pull them off you dont end up dropping them...even rock climbers put their hands back inside mittens when they want to warm them back up!...so this season I'll take their advice and thats what I'm going to try, its easy enough just to pull the right hand mitten off to fire and then put it back on, hope this helps others. best wishes....Dale.
  12. They over-bore the barrel "H" so it does'nt cause as much damage to the shot and is a little easier on the shoulder if your firing off lots of shots, as it was designed with lead cartridges in mind(competition) !...the more perfect the pellets are when they leave the Barrel the less flyers you have and your meant to get a better pattern?...but if your going to squeeze them through a full choke when they reach the muzzle end doesnt that defeat the object?..I realise there is less pressure behind the shot/wad...but it gives you food for thought?....This is one area where a 10 Bore scores over a 12 Bore, using steel shot, the larger Bore diameter of a 10g .775 as opposed to .729 for a 12g allows easier passage up the bore and less restriction even at the choked end, that coupled with more powder = faster and heavier pay loads = better patterns. As all shotguns use the same size shot variations..the bigger the bore and exit = less deformed pellets = better patterns. best wishes ...Dale.
  13. George Digweed uses a 32" fixed choke 3/4 & full for all his shooting Game and clays I bet he'd pick the Gauntlett up and go "Woodcock" shooting?....if people are really interested in the guns workings at either end, why not read "Chris CRADDOCKS" Gun Lore books?..he was a main authority on all guns from a collectors point of view and from a "Gunsmiths" as well for all his life and you will find even he says that barrel length has no effect on the pattern!...that comes down to the type of cartridge choke and wad combination you choose...you basically pick the gun that handles well for yourself, that is your stature and arm length which will dictate what length barrel and gun weight you feel comfortable with. one person is using a full choked 34" perazzi and the other is using a 28" full choked perazzi, both are using 40 thou of choke, with identical cartridges and their muzzles are level when both guns are fired.....how can the longer barrel's throw a better pattern?....does the cartridge realise its in a longer gun and act differently?...I think not, a simple mathematics x physics x engineering problem easily solved! its not a Dig, just common sense!...atb...Dale.
  14. Blackie's egg?......is that racist?
  15. I know that they've stopped making them and "Edgar Bros" sold off all their stock a while back and no longer distribute for Remington. Obviously a few gunshops will have one or two new ones about but they are few and far between, its quite maddening when you look on the "International" sites...like I've said any model, any barrel length wood or synthetic common as anything all available for a fraction of what some gunshops wanted in this country for them! atb...Dale. ps...it'll be like waiting for a bus when you have one, 3 will come along straight away.
  16. cheers mate, I'll chase it up and see if they can get one. atb...Dale.
  17. well spoken, and good "common sense / advice"!!....reloading is fun and quite interesting but if like "Muncher" asks;...do you expect to fire more than 50 shots and you may not, you will be better off buying shells, as with reloading you tend to get carried away and at one loading session, you can produce enough shells to last 2/3 seasons +...buy the bare minimum and get them fired!!...or like most of us reloaders, you'll become a collector of..."Rusty cartridges"!!!!!!! best wishes...Dale.
  18. Still looking for a Remmy SP10.....anyone seen one on their travels?....they're 10 a penny in the states at the moment....I might have to go down that route. cheers for any help offered. best wishes...Dale.
  19. place a "WANTED" AD in "Sporting G"un it will reach far more people, I got loads of replies when I was after a 8Bore for months after the mag came out, you can do it on line. good luck....Dale.
  20. you dont need it Wayne.....you make your own!
  21. Just checked the "current live price"....at the minute, the price per gram is £24.11...that gives your chain the scrap value of..£1,109.06 obviously somebody would only pay your asking price if they liked the item in question and was'nt going to weigh it in. out of interst, you can get up to the minute gold prices "live" on Google. hope this is some use to you best wishes...Dale.
  22. Camo / synthetic model preferred but will consider any model offered, must be in good condition. many thanks....Dale.
  23. Right thats it !!....solicitors letter on its way!.......might well be the one you've seen H, Vic and brent are going to get it mot'd and a few bits that need sorting out done. Brownies joined "Spalding" again but he only went twice last year so he wont be taking the caravan down this time, plus, theres more room in the van so if you are still on with that "Thai bird" theres room for you, you should make the van rock now your shoulders fixed, also should be something on your returns sheet come the seasons end, trouble is I dont think a "Thai Bird" comes under wildfowl?....but at least you'll get a bang!!!.......hello Graham, hope to see you again this season, bumped into phil at Kirton and he told me you had been down there a few times. atb everyone....Dale.
  24. I've phoned about that gun before and was told it had been sold, I think they just keep the advert on the site Fenboy, many thanks though....cheers...Dale.
  25. I think your'e correct!...theres plenty available over there at really low prices but it rises significantly when you put the import duty on plus its a lot of messing around and you are buying the gun unseen /unhandled but I'm grateful to him for posting it. best wishes...Dale.
