  4. just been to order my new varmint but got conflicting advice on barrel length !!! so now don,t know wether to buy a 16" or 18" version !!!!

anybody got any suggestions-ideas PLEASE !!!!!!!

    regards

    shaun

I dont have any experience with the 18" but this week I bought the 16" and am really pleased with it especially the SAK mod I fitted, its perfect for using in the truck. It shot good tight groups straight out of the box.

  5. Hi Guys I knew this would happen one day and it has, Im overstocked and cramming the guns B) in to stay legal so I need another cab, any size what have you got, will collect and pay cash.

Just bought a 16" heavy barrel varmint in .22, its the mutts, shoots a nice little group and the walnut stock is a cracking piece of wood to look at., the SAK is far quieter than my old PH really impressed with that especially as its plastic.

Anyway please PM me if you have a cab, condition is not important as long as it does the bizzo.

    D2D

  6. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst thing you have smelt.....it rates a 20 :lol::lol:

    NTTF

Hi NTTF,I made some up about 2 months ago in the greenhouse (made the Toms shoot up the canes  ) and have tried it, it certainly does work but I felt that the film cannisters were not big enough so half filled a bean can with rag soaked in the mix and a vertical line of holes punched in the side covered by insulating tape until sited. I hung the can 2 ft off the ground and laid up at 90 deg to the wind, actually I sat in the truck  The bait accounted for two cubs within 30mins of each other.

Im going to make up another batch soon, if anyone wants any posted PM me and you can have some, one of my farms is a livery yard so no shortage of hoof trimmings B)

    D2D

  7. It also depends on the cartridge type, (ie felt wad or plastic). I know for a fact there's a new bloke just set up near Bruton in Somerset who's doing well cheap felt cartridges. My old man just bought a load that couldn't be refused B)

I think I used to drink with him many years ago in The Bull just down the road from him.

    P.

Is that the Bruton near a place called Batcombe Vale? We stayed there many years ago and fished in a small trout lake during midsummer, cracking part of the country. Must go back one day.

  10. I agree i hate it when people trespass on our land, and the people who take there whipets out onto the stuble to catch rabbits, it's not there land they shouldnt be there.

I have one story about a idiot with is well quite interesting. One of my friends was lamping rabbits, when he thought he saw a fox, he lifted his gun, but somthing didnt feel right so he didnt shoot it. The person next to him kept trying to convince him it was a fox but my friend was certian it wasnt. So they decide to go and see what it is. When they get there they find that it is a drunk guy wearing a foxtail hat. I know he was drunk but that is still incredibly stupid, and not to mention that he shouldnt have been trespassing in the first place, i hate trespassers so much :) ;):lol:

I read a while ago about a guy out lamping and almost squeezed one off at a pair of eyes, it turned out to be a man out in a field near his home looking for a lost cat, the "eyes " that reflected were his other cat perched on his shoulder.

How many newbies can tell the difference or have even noticed the difference between the colour of animals eyes at night when picked up by the lamp. In my early days I almost shot a lone sheep laid down in the middle of a large stubble quietly chewing the cud. It just cant be said enough times that if you cant see the whole picture then dont shoot.

  11. imafter a roto-light for the top of my vehicle, please pm if you can help, regards lone wolf

Hi LW, If you are offered one make sure it rotates all way round, if the rain gets into them and they are not lubed and maintained they keep sticking, frustrating to say the least, air goes blue  ;)

Mine is perm fixed on light bar, I keep a cover over it when not using it.

    All the best

  12. It featured in a shooting mag (Sporting Gun maybe?) I kept the mag but chucked the others, now I can't find the mag anywhere :good:

To make it worse when I had the magazine it wasn't the shooting season.

The gist is, if you complete the 'challenge' in the day you get a bottle of bubbly and certificate.

It sounds do'able, as long as I can hit the pheasant :good:

Like Cranfield I have shot and fished in Kent all my life but I have not heard of this place and I know of most of the bigger shoots, I would be interested in having a go though??

I believe there was a similar challenge put out by a certain distillery called "Fin, Fur and Feather" which involved shooting and fishing in one day.

  13. knife in below the sternum and slit the skin and fur down about 4 inches then get your hands in.

only ever use rubber gloves if we are ferreting

Once slit a rabbit open and wafted the smell down the hole with my cap to try and entice a ferret out, forgot I had blood on my hands and ended up with the ferret firmly attached to my thumb... god did that hurt and the nail go black :):good:

  14. i started shooting at 11 with a 12 bore and 24gr shells

And me, with an old semi hammerless single 12g, dont bother with a 20g he will only grow out of it very quickly.

Totally agree about the ear protection, my ears buzz all the time and its not very nice.

Enjoy his company........ til he discovers girls ??? :(

  15. not going to tell just yet i want to see who realy knows there scopes will tell at 11pm.

  16. High Guys,

I have just got back into shooting after a long break. I have had a lincoln Premier 20b fitted to me, I now find that I am shooting low and missing the bird. Question, is the stock to high or to low?. The gunsmith cannot fit me in until after christmas. what can i do to correct this in the mean time. :good:

    Sundodger

If you are wanting to do any serious shooting before then, and I know this sounds obvious, but is there not another gunfitter you could travel to in the area? Just a thought.

  17. looks like the wood has been cracked for a long time, more worrying to me is what are the barrels like? if they are as bad as the chambers then in all probability they are pitted and out of proof, I am supprised you purchased it in that condition, if that was mine I would ask for a refund.

I agree, if you paid good money for it ask for a refund or at least a full credit against another gun.

If you keep it and the time comes to sell it a purchaser will probably knock you down in price because of the repair.

Any good gunsmith would have seen the damage and a reputable shop would not have sold it in need of an obvious repair.

Good luck with it and dont leave it long before taking it back.
