  1. Hi all, does anyone have any way of contacting MIKE222 or VINNIE if you can, please either PM me with details or kindly ask them to contact me, they have been offline now for well over a week and I do need to speak to them asap.

    many thanks

  2. D2D,

How are things progressing on this area? Hopefully the scuts are taking over  I need to know roughly how many holes there are so I can bring enough nets and whether or not a lurcher or two will help the situation.

Have you still got the people that showed interest on board? If not I can bring a team but we will need to keep all the spoils to pay for the day.

The team can only do a Sunday but if you have enough bodies a weekday will suit me.

Amazing..... I was only thinking about it yesterday,Will PM you later to finalise details, all going to plan.

There may well be an opp to run a dog which will be good to watch.

  3. Tomorrow is the Rifle buying day. I am set on CZ American on the 17 HMR and 22 Rimmy. Total will be around £500

Can you let me know what the best Moderators to get are for each.

And advice on Scopes. I know I have asked before wanted to confirm.

Also, i will need a bipod for each etc etc

    Hi Cupr,

I recently bought CZ Varmint .22 with SAK mod its very quiet and would recc, as far as the bipod goes only Harris swivel would do but not the short one I made that mistake  PM if you want further info on performance.

  4. Fitting a secure box in the back for your rifle sounds an excellent idea.

Just be aware that you have to take "reasonable" precautions when transporting a gun.

Even if it is in a secure box, it won't be wise to leave it in a car park and go shopping for 3 hours, just in case someone nicks the vehicle (although with a Defender that is unlikely :good: ).

A friend of mine has a secure box in his Range Rover and if he leaves the vehicle for longer than a few minutes, he takes the bolt , or fore end (shotgun) with him.

Then if the motor is stolen, the guns are virtually unusable.

In my opinion, and thats all it is, the bolt should never be anywhere near a rifle at any time unless you are using the rifle,

Same with mags and ammo, common sense really.

Now getting back to this Defender, a V8 in this day and age how much are they paying you to take it away :good: it will end in penniless tears you will always be putting your hand in your pocket, and they will have to be deep, to fuel it up.

You have got it half right being a Def, but go for a TDI, Ive had several and they have all been good uns, fingers crossed.

  5. Well it has happened, my Labrador has had a litter of 7 pups. All pups are healthy and growing very fast!. There are 6 black and 1 choc. Both parents can be seen and are pure labradors. The dog is a working gun dog. These pups will be ready for the 18th of december. They will be 8 weeks old. £150 each and they will only be sold to good homes. For further information please PM me.

I would have rippeed your arm off for the choc one! but you live the other end of the bleeding country! :good:

At £150 for a chocolate pup from good working parents its worth the fuel picking it up??

Although Accrington is pushing it a little :good:

As you will know here in Kent many breeders are asking £450+ for working strain pups.

  6. Okay went to the gun shop to pick up the new toys.

The .223 Steyr is a work of art and engineering. However, I screwed the T8 mod on it and I pushed and pulled the bolt and found that with the silencer on you got this loud and melodic "ting" - the whole set up acted like a tuning fork. Take the mod off and all is well. Bizarre. The up shot is that despite tinkering its got to go off for the mod to be properly fitted and proofed, so no gun for another 2 weeks. ****** (lower case).

The SGC M4 .22RF carbine looks like a nutters gun and I was smiling all the way in and out of the shop. Took it out this evening for some bunny action and the bad news is that it doesn't seem to like .22 Winchester subsonics (doh) but it does like the full power stuff.

StuartP posted about the problems of semi autos and the real pain of lining up a shot, squeezing the trigger and hearing a dull click rather than a bang. Well that happened a lot tonight. That being said, we squeaked a fox, chambered one in the .243 and nadda - complete jam - bullet tip one way, rest the other.

Bit of a cock up evening all told and mark my words if the .22 is going to be fussy about ammo then it's gonna get outed PDQ. I neither have the patience nor the technical knowledge to spend hours trying different ammo types, conditons and filing down magazine runners etc.

Just out of interest, what is considered to be the least fussy semi auto .22 set up? I am not ready for a bolt action just yet and am merely conducting enquiries and taking a few names.

    EDIT:

Oh yes, every time the gun went click, there was a chuckle over my shoulder and someone saying "it's a toy".

    Well, I suppose it is.

What you need is a good reliable, bang away allnight ANNIE :good::lol:

  7. Forgot to say, I don't what others who have done it thought, but I reckon that was pretty accurate simulation of a day on hills after hinds, even down to the none too clever estate rifle! Did the job though - good shot.

2 weeks tomorrow and counting down  my legs are aching just thinking about it . .

I watched last nights episode and thought it was good, I dont stalk so cannot comment on the way in which the deer was taken but can point out that the strap/buckle on his gunslip is unlikely to last more than a season carried the wrong way up, apart from that small point I found the series to be quite informative.

Amazing the volume of herbs, spices, pots and pans a landrover will carry

    D2D

  9. Hi Chunk,

It's the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system on the Disco's, I'm not a mechanic but the benefits of blanking the EGR system are to prevent dirty exhaust gasses entering the inlet manifold, and to reduce air inlet temperatures.

If you go onto Landyzone there are a million threads about it including this one, think this is mainly for the TD5 but as far as I know the same applies to the 300.

Thanks for the link, my TD5 cost LR a new starter motor today at 29K....... Peed off or what, the old defender is still on the original starter motor and done 164K so work that one out please.

  10. Can't advise you on the legal side of things Mung. But comparing shooting a fox with a rimfire and centrefire. Once you nail him with a .223 the rimmy will stay in the cabinet. Good luck with your application, I sincerely hope you get what you go looking for!

The difference was explained to me as comparing the .22 as hitting the fox with a hammer and the .223 as hitting it with a sledgehammer its about right imo.

  11. whos a good author for labs?

    regards,

    Ash

Martin Deeley has written a couple of first class books from basics through to FTCH level on Labs.

I have used his methods with some success and will do again next spring when we have a new lab Pup :good::mad:

(sorry about that, have been dogless for too long )

  12. It sells camo netting, so i better not..lol

I purchased the jacket anyway after Dazza gave me the thumbs up  thank god for that!!

needed a new coat, its getting so cold!!

Yah wus  , Im out cutting the lawn in my shirtsleeves, but then you will live in Wales.

My father moved to mid Wales and we are always comparing the weather and whats growing in the veg plot, sometimes he says Im pulling his leg over the difference in the weather in Kent compared with what he has.

Glad you got a decent jacket but you should have had mine

  13. Had a surprise today on my shoot, whilst feeding the resevoir for the ducks. This resevoir has a pipe leading to it from the field.

And what was starring back at me, but a bloody mink.

I wondered why the ducks never really hung about much on the resevoir, only to feed then flight.

So i ran back to my jeep, thrashed it home to get my rifle- .17hmr, <_<

Sure enough it was still there, sat looking at me, 10 yrds away-

thwat, headshot, flopped into the resevoir.

Have taken pictures but cant upload them yet, it was a female, as long as my size 11 shoe.

Now does one reckon there could be more?? this is the first mink ive seen in 3 years.

    Alex

Best set a trap or two pronto, if you catch nowt then no harm done and ducks are safe.

    :) D2D
