  1. I'd heard pigeon breast makes a good chilli so had a go and the results were very tasty. I'd like to try and convert a few people to eating pigeon, but the meat texture doesn't look as close to lamb or beef mince. Does anyone add anything when mincing (Insert gay jokes here) to get a more authentic effect? Perhaps some pork fat? If so, in what quantities?
  2. Pablo the penile-perching ponce had been tricked again. This wasn’t what he’d bargained for when they'd said they knew a beefy hunk who’d toss him off.
  3. I have deerhunter Montana jacket and trousers. They are 1 year old and I've had no problems......I love 'em. Even if the jacket cost £30, it's unacceptable for stitching to fall apart from new. I'm sure the manufacturers will sort you out a quality controlled one. Just mention that you visit the forums and discuss kit.......................it might focus their attention. See if they''ll throw in a free Cameleon hat. I take size 58.
  4. The Beatles are definitely dying in the wrong order.
  5. Who: Liverpool Why: The best team when I became interested, and often on the telly and the 'wireless'. There have been some lean times, but I was there in Istanbul that night.............
  6. Thanks Henry. Interesting to hear about the nest. That kind of confirms what I suspected. People are reporting lots of birds about; I guess they've had a very good breeding season. I'm sure the acorns dropped slightly early this year, so fingers crossed for some good shooting ahead. Last year they were on the acorns and beech mast for way too long............er which was excellent news from a crop protection perspective obviously; which is the only reason I am in the game, after all. It would be nice to see Mr Oddie get a special PW welcome wouldn't it? I'd wager there would be a few *************s involved.
  7. Much as the title says........ I have been very busy studying lately, so I have not been out decoying for 6 weeks or so. Last time out I reckon 25% of my kill were young and stupid Woodpigeon, with no neck bars. In the last couple of weeks I have been surprised to still see birds without white neck bars around and about. I know the mild weather meant that pigeons laid another batch very late in the season, but I would be surprised if they had fledged successfully. Is it possible that birds in my area have raised 4 broods this year? Where I live is very urban. I've heard that Bill Oddie comes on here. He's a big shooting fan isn't he? I bet he'll know. If not, can anyone else educate me? BTW I know what a Stock Dove looks like.
  8. Now that's interesting. If the birds hovered then they were almost certainly kestrels. I decoyed a peregrine (possibly 2) a couple of months back, but before he came in I had a kestrel that hovered over my pattern for 15-20 minutes; started to p*** me off a bit. And no, I didn't........... Rossenarra's bird could have been a sparrowhawk, but I'd always thought that pigeons were too big for them and what would a kestrel want from a flock of pigeons? Maybe pigeons flush small mammals as they work the stubble? That's what I love about shooting though; always something new to see.
  9. What about this? http://www.clay-shooting.com/guntests/Bere...lverPigeonV.pdf I have the 30" field version. I picked it up secondhand because the owner couldn't get on with it. So far neither can I, but then I'm a bad shot. My pal has a Pigeon III sporter which he shoots very well; clays and quarry. I wish I'd gone for the sporter as it looks like a better all-rounder. Might be worth a look.
  10. My advice would be similar to that above. Replace deeks with dead birds as you go along. Bouncers with dead birds are very good, although learning where to place them is tricky at first. They seem to have a powerful influence for good and bad. It's fun trying though. I might suggest Sillosock decoys though. They are very light and pack down well compared to flocked shells. They seem to work for me, but I noticed the Peregrine Falcon I decoyed last week was going for a flocked shell not my silly sock. Let's see what others think of Silosocks. I'd put a flapper on my christmas list.
  11. I did send you a PM advising you that the thread was removed as this is a Public access Forum and it is against the House Rules to post links to websites with offensive images. Unfortunately a bare breasted lady falls into that category. I also said that I thought the link was amusing. Does that clarify things for you ? Quite right. A victory for common sense. The link was very amusing, but not how we should be presenting ourselves to any anti-shooting public who may wander in. We are not barbarians. Anyone got any more of those excellent pakistani jokes though? I'm sure they go down well.
  12. I thought that some of you may, like myself, have a deep scientific interest in this website: http://www.shockabsorber.co.uk/bounceometer/shock.html. I had no idea of the merits of a well fitted sportsbra, particularly to the more well endowed indulging in high impact exercise. This was a real fly-opener eye-opener to me.
  13. Probably not mate, but I'd call GMK on 01489 579 999. Ask to speak to someone about Beretta semi-autos. Word of warning though, Ive heard that availability on Xtrema2s could be November at the earliest. I was looking at a review of Escort semis here: http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/guns/shotgu...gun_review.html I noticed that he says "A right-handed gun With the safety button pushed left for off and the ejection port on the right, this is essentially a gun for the right-handed shooter. However, I do know of left-handed users who cope quite well with ejected cases flitting across their line of sight, so it is not necessarily a bar to ownership." This might not be the case for Beretta, but another question for GMK. Good luck.
  14. Nice link Wookie. That's a top site.
  15. Dan This struck me as a very informative thread, assuming you don't want to apply for .22LR. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=39610

    first rifle

That's beautiful. I'm pondering my first FAC. 6.5X55 has caught my attention. Can I pick your brains and ask what made you choose that rifle and spec?
  17. I had been looking on PW for a similar summary for a quite while. The site sponsors get a bit miffed (rightly in my opinion) by recommendations to buy elsewhere. A full and frank discussion is unlikely to occur therefore. My mate and I use 2 rotaries. One is the standard lightweight offering from the sponsors of PW. The other is an 'ultra' lightweight version from a very very expensive competitor. We have foam winged deeks and a set of hypaflaps. We just bought a wireless flapper. Too early to say if it really works, but the range on the remote is ****. Strangely, it seems to work at a greater range if you point it into your mouth and look at the device. Now my personal opinions. I'll number them so more knowledgable shooters can more easily destroy me. 1. They are both well built and will last. Buy from flea bay once, and you will be back there buying again. A waste of money in my view. If either of our machines broke down we could get them repaired by the vendor, no quibbles. 2. I like hypaflaps. However, although they are great to get you started, we change them for dead birds at the earliest opportunity. No doubt in time I'll learn to recognise situations where the movement from a hypaflap wins over a real bird and vice versa. 3. Lightweight rotaries are still a little too clunky and bulky for us. Ultras cost £20 - 40 more. 4. We wanted an 'ultra' lightweight rotary because generally they are lower drain and use a much smaller 7.0Ah battery. We can then take 2 batteries with us if it's a really long day. Usually ultras have in-line motors which makes them sleek and easier to stow. We like that. 5. Don't bother with foam winged deeks. Far too bulky. Sort of depends if you want to start out with bouncers though. 6. Buying a magnet as a package is really good value. Do you also want to buy a battery, charger, wing spreaders, speed controller or carry bag? I hope this helps in some way. Good luck deciding but don't forget your 10% discount.
  18. I thought that lack of a micro filter affected the phone not the broadband..... however, it sounds plausible. This looks informative http://www.adsl-filters.co.uk/tutorial.html
  19. I can lend you a Pinewood with hypaflaps. There's just one catch. It comes with an armed guard who will insist that the rotary is not let out of his sight. He's a nice bloke. He lives in my house and he's married to my wife.
  20. His cammo did change midway through the piece; Realtree at the start then some kind of DPM outfit from Millets of St Albans, when he was supposedly kicking himself for bottling it right at the end . I agree he was holding the rifle badly. He was resting the rifle wood directly on the high seat also, which I have always been told is bad practice. I reckon it might have been worked out beforehand. Couldn't it have been bad PR for him to have taken the shot? No one is in any doubt now that he strongly supports stalking of wild deer for the table, but no one can directly accuse him of actually killing Bambi.
  21. I have a montana, which I rate. Very quiet and I like the peach/microsuede finish (sorry, that's just the way it is ). I had a similar dilemma, but what sold me was the 3 drawstrings; just something I got used to using on DPM jackets. I was lucky to find a decider or I might still be mulling it over. It was a bit bulky when new, but it has lost some loft after being chucked in the car a few times. The fleece is a pain to put back in. If you are yomping about, you probably won't want the fleece so it's not that bulky, but generally warm enough. It's called a 5 in 1 which usually means bad at 5 jobs, but so far not in my experience. Why not ask the dealer what he sells most of?
  22. Does anyone recall the last deliberate killing with a legally held firearm, policeman or otherwise?
  23. Thanks Cranfield. I registered again though so this is a duplicate post now. Looks like I was a spanmmer after all then. Sorry
  24. Gents I feel the need to buy an all-round semi-auto in camo. It will be used mainly for pigeon shooting, but I do want to get involved in some wildfowling. I've decided on a Beretta Xtrema2. Please please please don't try to change my mind. I tried an Xtrema some time ago at the Epping shooting school and shot pretty well with it. Money isn't really an issue for me either. I like the Hardwoods green HD pattern on the Xtrema. http://www.beretta.com/index.aspx?m=74&idc=1&ids=74 What I would like help/opinions on is the suitability of a 26" barrel on a wildfowler. For some reason the MAX 4 Xtrema comes with a choice of 26,28 and 30" barrels. The Hardwoods version comes with 24 or 26" only. I know that this is a pigeon forum, but I've seen a few members with wider experience. I'd appreciate a steer.
