There's also the deeper tread blocks which move around to generate more heat and the sipes which open and close like octopus suckers to help on wet surfaces and more aggressive & open tread patterns to clear water and retain flexibility in cold temperatures. And yeah, they're pretty much done at 4mm for snow but are still fine for general cold / rainy conditions.

Sorry for the late response but yes, miles better. I was the same and was just using a beard trimmer as it was just ridiculous. I started with a DE and get a far closer and more comfortable shave than I ever did with Mach 3s and no little red bumps afterward. I can even shave just before going to work in collar and tie and have no rash at the end of the day too now.

Yes, far less likely. I had problems for years which disappeared as soon as I started using a DE razor.
