  1. I tell you, at the rate the man is working both you and I could fashion some stocks quicker than he will weld that bloody billet, as I know you are also very good on the woodwork side I could make the shackles and chain, job done oh you best have a stout rope handy as I can feel a hanging come soon if he don’t shape up.
  2. I’m most disappointed that la bala has of yet not welded his billet, if I was closer I’d weld it for him, but that’s defeating the object of the exercise, he’s been a naughty boy and should be on detention and beaten with a big stick so that he comes to his senses and gets on with the dam job.
  3. Has more to do with them being puppy’s than anything else there’s no need to push anything, remember time is your friend whilst training.
  4. My god man, he was offering as much as that be careful who tell to **** off, you just might need him at a later date. Ps, Ill offer £401 no question asked ha ha.
  5. I do apologise if any offence was taken, one of my shooting friends has a black lab bitch than can hunt like no other same problem as yours will carry dummy but will not carry game, hes asked me if I would help him out, my reply was get yourself an average lab, I said this because the most natural thing a lab does is retrieve without any encouragement, Im sure you have your back against the wall with this dog but saying that I wish you well and hope luck is on your side. Regards, E.W.
  6. I know of one that works, I’m told that people in the know don’t overtrain these dogs as if you consider that they need a fair bit of independence to go out hunt and point for you then retrieve, cracking looking dog and hope you have plenty of fun working it, best of luck for the season.
  7. I kept labs springers for forty odd years trail and work, remember you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig.
  8. What a lovely wife you have to give you such a present, glad you enjoyed yourself.
  9. I’m at the moment in Kilkenny Ireland and can tell you it’s extremely rough here everything is shut down.
  10. Good watch and video Ollie, I enjoyed that thanks for sharing.
  11. Well, just one of them days chap, but great honest video, nevertheless that great dog of yours made up for it, thanks once again for sharing.
  12. Well done that man, great result.
  13. I'd bin the borax get yourself some proper welding flux I stopped useing borax 30 years ago, go on YouTube I'm sure there's some good videos that would be of help as I think at this stage you need to visually see someone perform the art of fire welding to grasp the concept.
  14. Cracking bag that, nice little write up, thanks for sharing.
  15. I'm very old school so would find that sort of behaviour from a retailer most annoying to say the least, what a poor state of affairs the retailer is in shocking to take ones money then totally forget about them.
  16. Anyone would have thought you'd done a days work.
  17. Another little pointer whilst fire welding is get some flat bar heat it up and lay on the anvil to heat the anvil up as when you're welding a cold anvil will draw heat from you billet making welding difficult.
  18. E.w.

    barley

Same here aga man so I've had to brest them for the freezer, between me and the dogs we'll manage. Yickdaz, That was a nice little write up and I commend you for your sporting ability to leave young birds, sounds like a great result to me well done and thanks for sharing.
  19. Ah!!!!! I see you remembers your teachings young grasshopper.
  20. Well done Lloyd on your first, I bet you can't wait to crack on now with some game shooting.
  21. Yes that's a problem you don't need, then billet must be squared up at all times.
  22. You are correct it is nothing more than practice, I'm sure you will get there the billet spread would hinder the best fire welding guys the welding of the billet will make things a whole lot easier.
  23. When you next make a billet run a bead of weld every inch that will stop your billet spreading whilst you fire weld it, strike the flat of the billet first then work the edges were flux is relevant. Your fuel for the fire is I think called anthracite beans which is fine, when fire welding you will reach the correct heat do not remove the billet from the fire shut of the air to allow the fire to consume the oxygen allowing the materials to soak a few seconds before removing from the fire then work, wire brush vigorously and re flux are at a cherry red heat only. Best of luck.
  24. Well I hope things work out I would hate to think of you working that hard on a billet to find out you've ended up with a piece of **** after all that effort mind you ditchman may well have had a laugh about it.
