  1. I have 2 interchangeability shotgun choke charts . For Yilditz no Known options available . If you were to get chokes to for your thread , yes they would sit s x s , Flush or extended depending on what you bought . With a double gun some guys use just one extended choke with no issues other than smoke and powder on ext choke .
  2. The National parks and Wildlife service manage the Seasons with the Minister for the Environment /Dment of Arts, Heritage, / that title has changed slightly with our New modified Government) signing into to Law the OPEN SEASONS ORDER . This is updated from time to time , so the date on the one in the link here , is current . https://www.npws.ie/legislation/irish-law/open-seasons-order , lists species and dates hunting allowed . The main Ducks you will meet will be , Mallard , Teal and Wegion , possibly Shoveler and if you are very lucky Pintail and Gadwall . That's on the coast the other duck listed would be Mostly Inland lake shooting , though any species could turn up anywhere at anytime . Snipe , Jack Snipe and Golden Plover should be easily found and there was a good number of Jack Snipe around last season . All the same shooting dates , Sept 1st to Jan 31st . If you are Costal shooting you need a Foreshore Licence from the NPWS , its free but you need to apply for it now . It has gotten a little more red tape like of late but its easy enough to fill out , link for form here . https://www.npws.ie/licences/hunting/fauna-state-owned-foreshore. It will also cover you for inland state owned lakes a list of which will be included with your paperwork . You do not need this licence if you are shooting over other lake and ponds on private land , but you will need land owner permission to shoot there . A few things to look out for . Bird ID , make sure you know what you are shooting at , with low light and 100s of waders around at times , things can seem Fuzzy . Make sure your dog is up to snuff and retrieving well. Make sure you know your patch of foreshore , walk it by day at High and low tides , remember an onshore wind , low pressure and a spring tide will drive water levels way past norms . Safety first , theres nothing else like Wildfowling on the Coast in rough weather , enjoy it and make sure you get home in one piece . Anymore you need to know , fire away.
  3. Well you can still use lead. 36gr of no 5 , or 4 in a good quality cartridge will take care of your needs , 5 is my preferred load. The Geese down this way , when I see them are protected so no need for anything bigger . Duck are very scarce on the coast here right now , I shall be Bass and Pollock fishing for a few weeks into the season .
  4. Are you talking North or South ? That will determine shot size as we can still use Lead in the South . If using steel you will need to drop down at least 2 sizes , ie my preferred shot size for duck is 5 Lead so for steel you are talking at least size 3 , but then you need to take into account what load you want to use , 34 gr , 36gr etc. will you be shooting over decoys or pass shooting . Most costal fowling here is Pass shooting .
  5. Hi, I use 3 Different types of sports cameras while out shooting . I have been recording my shooting for the past 8 seasons , while I do not use an SxS - O/U and Semi - it should be simple enough to mount a camera , though it depends on the type of camera you use . let me share my views. A camera mounted to the barrels will be limited to the safe use of the Gun , camera - barrels pointing at Dog Mid retrieve etc. This is what I do , I have a 4ft post with a Go Pro mount screwed onto it , I point this outward or inward to the hide at various times . A stationary camera gives great results . I then also have a Sony action Camera , which I wear on the right side of my head . I am used to it and I miss it if its not there . While it has I.S. image stabilisation , my body also dampens out a lot of the shake from movement . This camera has a Flat side and is perfect for head use , you get a great down the barrel and wider angle view and can look , point at your friends , dogs etc shoot and move in complete safety . I can also post mount this if I wish . A go pro , Head mounted would be in the centre of your forehead and I do not like that . My recent purchase that has fantastic recording ability is a RUNCAM HD 2 , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3Jda-7gtQ4. It will fit a SxS perfectly due to its flat side . it is small and very light . It comes with straps to mount and could be looped through a vented rib . The camera can be set up to flip the image , so you mount the camera upside down on the underside of your barrels and have the on - off switch to hand . Use a 3 inch x 2 inch x 1/4 - 1/2 inch of grey or black packaging sponge under the barrels place the camera against that and I would use a wrap on black electrical tape , it wont obstruct your bead , then the straps . If you have a camera working loose , use tie wraps , small ones and have some sponge or tape between them and the barrels . Set up properly it will move and give good footage , in fact a SxS is more stable than a semi for this . Just yesterday , my mother nearly 80 had a great time watching her dog working on video with me on my I pad and wants to see the rest of the videos I have soon . Cheers,
  6. Same in the South . No foreshore extension here either .
  7. XTREMA confusion , at last we have a Thread with the Perfect Tile. Thank you Beretta, yet again.
  8. How goes it Fenboy . I checked the Beretta site , before I posted the first time and re checked before my second post . The currently available A300 s are only 3 in , there is no currently available A 300 in 3.5in on Beretta.com. Again for the OP , the only Leftie is a 400. at this time.
  9. Motty , all 4 Current A 300 OUTLANDER models are a 3in. There is no A 300 Xtrema - Xtreme model.
  10. What occurs to me , from the Moderators Peace call is the following . 1867 views and 78 replies , at this time the 2nd highest view count in the past month. Of those replies , several were multiple posters and for the most part people who contribute to quite a few discussions. So lots of readers , but few writers . As the , how should I put it nicely , opposing sides Did not complain , it therefore must have been a Reader . Readers, perhaps a contribution here maybe of more Help , rather than a 999 call , after all if you do not like what you are reading , ----------. Yes indeed by my count there has been about 3 threads with "conflict" since Xmas and as we all know as soon as one or 2 Guys pop up and Post the Snipers come out to play . Now the Genesis of that battle is before my time on this Forum , so I cannot comment without knowledge . All I can say is , a , Peaceful New Year to All.
  11. Confused. Yes Beretta Semis can have that effect , for clarity and brevity a short listing . BERETTA XTREMA BERETTA XTREMA 2 BERETTA A 400 XTREME , this is in current production, the above are not. 3.5 in This Gun is available in Left hand version , Black only as far as I know . I have used all the above guns. Beretta A 300 , 3in cheaper model . The A 400 XTREME , has Aqua coating , to defend against corrosion and this does a good job. . I am sure your RFD could order in any gun for you . Heres a Thought , why not go to the shooting show at the end of the month at Stoneleigh and try out a few guns for fit , as you say its hard to find one , you will be spoilt for choice I am sure if you go. Good luck.
  12. B 725 , Hunter G1 . My sons gun and I am currently using this until the end of season . I find it , slightly heavy , fits well , shoots straight , the Ejectors could have a little more clearance to lift unfired shells out , but that's a minor point . The top lever is always and has always been to tight and its not catching on the woodwork. Other than that I have no trouble with it . A 400 12G Extreme - first 2 seasons , no problems , maybe 1 FTE a season . This year it has cost me about 10 Birds , again FTE , failure to eject . Perhaps its all the rain , slushing around as it has been a very wet season and I am usually out there. Again at 8lbs unloaded I find it Heavy to Lug around , with a sling and 3 big shells its getting on for 9lbs. I like to shoot snipe on my walk to and from the Marsh , so that's not working out to well this year , hence the 20g. The 20g has been out in the rain also and as I said not a problem . Would I recommend one ?, it is a fine gun , but I am trading mine in after using it for 3 seasons. All I can tell you is try it , keep it clean and don't use too much lube and it should be fine , though as stated in another post above ad widely on the net , it has 3.5 in feeding and ejecting issues , so if you plan on using those , pick another gun. A pump isn't for me , might try an A 400 Xplor light , ( I have 4 extra chokes for them already , Mullers H20 etc) or I am looking at the Fabarm L4S , none in the shops here so I might have to await a UK game fair to handle one . Yes indeed C.G. is a showman of sorts , too much chat in that duck blind for me , but what I like about him is that He is willing to try new things , is not afraid to get out there in all weathers and he is showing Marshes That I shall never get the chance to set foot on and in fairness , he gets his share of Duck , eventually in spite of not paying enough attention to how many shells he has in his gun , lol. I met him and Jimmy bean at the CLA a few years back and both guys were warm , friendly and willing to spend time and chat with all who wanted to. Lets face it there isn't really another dvd that I am aware of out there that shows our sport . I got the dvs for the Punting end of things , nothing much in that line either . Of topic , the only other dvds I have that show Wegion shooting are French . The other good duck hunting dvds I have seen and have , not band hunters , not Fear the Beard , are a series called Destination X , a Canadian group of guys , fantastic locations , brilliant camera work and some simply excellent dogs , seem to be gone by the wayside now. frank has passed through , the town here at both sides all roads closed so no shooting this evening .
  13. Bellyslater , you cut and pasted my post so your , "Don't believe all you read" comment is aimed ! at me . My experience as set out in the above posts are true and Factual , happened to me first hand wasted months of a season I can never get back and my time and money .shipping to RFDs, time off work etc . Please be so kind as to not impune my integrity in Public again, if you wish to say something to me good or bad then do so in private . Whether you believe me or not is Your problem . Your lucky your gun works , if I was to take my own advice above I wouldn't say to you that You probably aren't getting enough salt air on the gun, no salt air in the Middle of the Midlands and I know that because I was born there, a long time ago. Here are some links to some other people you can similarly Disbelieve, same issues as my Maxus , except for the Failing Breech block pin of course . http://www.browningowners.com/forum/index.php?threads/browning-maxus-shotgun-troubleshooting.608/ http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/212519-problems-with-browning-maxus/ http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=282753 http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=212106 Feel free to post into those forums and tell those shooters , sharing their experiences with other shooters that you Don't believe them either . I can be described in many ways Bellyslater , those who know me will tell you , Being a LIAR isn't one of them. Thank you for rubbishing my contribution to a post on this Forum , I have shared views this week also on the Go Pros and headcams and other issues in the past , positive or negative Truthful at all times . I have never ever set about passing comment on another member , please show me the same respect , I wish you well with your Maxus , after season 3, I hope you feel the same way about your gun. Happy New Year
  14. Yes , one can be lucky or unlucky when it comes to any piece of equipment . The A 400 20g is a sterling bit of Kit , never ever a problem , the 400 12 , is getting more and more fussy with its Diet , even with 2 3/4 carts . see att pic ( failed to eject , still from a vid cam ) Eley Alphamax 36g , 3 Wegion saved by Beretta , two weeks ago same thing on Mallard the outing before I had a wall of Mallard in front of me , 2 down for one shot then stuck . It had been fully stripped , chamber brushed the full monty and still wouldn't play ball . Have been using the B725 more and more , but we all know how useful that 3rd shot can be , so I think its time for another change . Frank , is quite bad here now , very hard to even walk into the face of the wind and stinging rain
  15. My view is and I have seen All C and J Wildfowling vids. Sure entertaining and it is not easy to shoot and Video , if I were Chris I would get another gun and no it would not be a Maxus . Jimmy Bean was shooting the Max well and so was I until mine stopped working . Next time you have the Max breach block out , turn it over and look at those Pins . One of them fell out of mine and the gun wouldn't work , also when it was "working" the trigger seemed to lock up and it would not fire at all . It spent 3 months on holiday in Belgium and when I got it back it was traded in . A quick search on the net and you will find many people with the same problems. 2 other guys have a Max in my club , one has problems and one does not , the gun that doesn't hasn't been out of its case in over a year . If you have a Max that works well you are a lucky fowler . Using a B 725 and an A400 12 and a A400 20g now , but like the look of the new Fabarm L4S, shot a lot of duck with a Fabarm Euro 3 many years ago. Off to get a walk on the marsh before Strom Frank hits in the afternoon here , Better Luck to those Spending Time with Uncle Max than I had , Enjoy the New Year .
  16. I have been using head cams since 2009. I have 2 Go Pro 2s and a Sony Head cam . Used them gun mounted , head mounted and my current set up is I usually put a go pro mounted on a stake forward of my hide , either facing front or rear . I prefer the side Mounted Sony to wear on my head rather than the central position a go pro gets mounted on . One other thing , the sony has slightly better low light image quality and IMO a better all round pic quality . Lots of side x side comparisons of both on YT. Been playing back several nice flights today on the pc , Well worth the time and effort . One tip , I have drilled several small holes drilled into the side of the housing , prevents heat build up and condensation , other things may not work . I have a roll of pvc tape in my pocket to cover when it rains and no issues so far , keep it rolling and carry a spare battery , delete the boring ones but if its not on you wont catch it . I missed an otter up close the other morn , camera not rolling , Enjoy.
  17. I never used to wear a mask in the old days , just the peak cap and stay still method. However the peak gets in the way of my head cam , side mounted so I wear a face cover now . I use a Mossy oak Duck blind camo Buff, serves as a great neck warmer , rain catcher etc. It can be pulled right up and yes you can use a call while wearing it . 2 types , one cotton top and bottom and 2 , cotton and Fleece . I don't leave home without it . As was mentioned , Hands and movement , I wear one glove , left hand on forend , keep Still as we all know is the main thing . Quack , Quack!
  18. Regarding owls out by day and appreciating the fact That I was not there and not doubting anyone's id,s but I find The most common Owl flybys are from Short eared owls at this time of year . Had them hover 3 feet over head , wing tips near hit my nose etc . I was buzzed by 2 different birds on the same evening last week . I have video of the 2 , a still of one att . Fantastic to see , by the way the tide is behind me .
  19. I was only looking at this mag online the other night .I did not opt to sign up . I have been getting a few copies of American Waterfowler Magazine . if you down load the App you can preview the articles with images on your I pad , if you have one . Or on the website you have the list of contents . I find it a brilliant way to get US magazines and you just pick and pay for the ones you want . I also buy Greys Sporting Journal and the Upland Almanac when the contents take my fancy . You automatically get sent details of the latest issue , you can get them sent to your smart phone also . Cost per mag A W F , was 4.99 Euro to me . Back issues listed to 2011 with Great cover artwork. Hope the info helps . You will have the mag on your device nearly instantly having paid for it .
  20. I know what you mean , some lovely American boats out there , the Danish shooters after Eider etc , have some nice small boats to . A basic sneak boat start around 1300 usd , up to 5000 ish for some of those pictured , shipping , well that's going to be north of 500 and Tax and import duties after that . But you would have a Boat for life , note how Beamy they are !.
  21. 2 links for inspiration, the 2nd boat is a nice one , but would prefer the bow in the water , this one is built for speed. http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=106995 http://www.duckhuntingchat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=143620
  22. 2nd lot of pics . USA boat I would like and what I will use this year in grey , Camoed over of course , 12ft KA BOAT . Benefits would be roof rack no trailer needed ,
  23. Hello Kent , I have been using a Ali Boat for a few seasons now , Fishing and Ducking . 13ft Linder in pics att . As a Fishing boat it is great , as a boat to shoot duck from , or to get to those hard to reach places to shoot, not so great . After researching as much as I could , I went for a Vee Hull , as I would be crossing big water as an extra safety measure I went with the V. This boat as you can see has chines on the hull, Keeps it a dry boat and steps up on the plane quickly , not something you need in a duck punt . It has built in floatation under the seats etc . I cannot get into the shallow areas I want to shoot , the v hull and chines stick me to the mud like glue . A Flat bottom Boat is a must . Weight , great for launch and retrieve , but you will feel every ripple and every puff of wind , Ballast would be a must to keep a punt gun on Track . Also Freeboard , you would need as low a profile as possible to keep you tracking straight. On the plus side , Ali is a lay it down forget about it material for a boat . I am sure I saw a link to plans for an Ali layout cross sneak boat somewhere and I might have saved the link , if I have it I will send it in later. Myself I wanted a similar boat to this sneak boat see pic., USA style , cost of shipping with the Euro collapsing ( and going south with Greece HEADING WEST) makes it a no go at this time . So I have opted for a light cheap alternative , see pic , due in any day next week . Given the above I think an ALI sneak type Punt Gunning Boat is a real proposition. Good luck with the build and a Build report on here would be fantastic, Quack Quack , ps might have to att pics into a 2nd post .
  24. Figgy , fyi. H20 - I have patterned the Passing , in an Informal way , to my satisfaction 2 years ago with no photos , sorry. I can tell you they are very light chokes and made from , taken from there home page. Aerospace-grade aluminum base is TWICE as STRONG as steel. CERAMIC TEFLON INFUSION results in the hardest, slickest choke on the market today. No Single choke will do it All ,as we know and there are , DECOY , PASSING and UFO for a reason . I was intending to get a UFO choke at the start of this season , but our "Blue suited fraternity" over here wish to do away with semis , without compensation for the loss of the gun, so I wasn't going to waste another £100 on a choke I would get little use out of . As regards Range and pattern , well subjective as it is I can tell you that this past week I shot a Pair of Jack Snipe with the passing - 1 at 21 or 22 yds and the other at about 45yds. Also Several Wigeon in very stormy conditions from 25 to 50yds or so , without , Smashing them . So from that you can see it is possible to manipulate the Choke , Cart combination to throw a worthwhile pattern for various Quarry species. Other than when I have been using my 20g, I have used the Passing choke in 12g all season for my fowling , 20 to inside of 55 yds . Please note I have the "Luxury" of being able to still use lead . I am quite happy to leave this choke in my gun for the Season .I would not be happy to leave my Black Duck choke in there and in fact I cannot see myself using it again , PS , I use Comp N Choke EXT chokes in my 20g . I understand that they are currently producing H20 for the 20g . Again as my A400 20g is a Semi I am not sure if I will gamble with a choke purchase for the above reasons . I would if the Blue Cloud , was not hanging over my head .
  25. R10, Having used a BLACK DUCK PM , in my A400 XTREME for 2 seasons , it is now another expensive, paperweight . IMHO , I found that. Shot sizes of 4 , 5 and 6 did not pattern well and did not kill Cleanly . Steel shot in sizes 3, 2 and bigger worked better in this choke . as others have said it is tight and you will get no mercy from it , if your not on Form!. FYI, I now use almost exclusively, ( unless over dekes at 25yds when I use Beretta 1/4 ext factory choke), Mullers H2O Passing , handles steel and lead . large and small and good to 55yds , with a very nice pattern from outer fringe to centre. Having used 5 different aftermarket Choke types over the years , MULLERS H20 is by far the One that suits me best . After some excellent shots pre Xmas my Son is also now a Mullers convert to , It would be great to hear how you get on , good luck,
