  1. Interesting. Are they called Muntjac in other counties
  2. Thats one smart looking bit of kit mate, enjoy Nicely done gents. Well done Ed. I spent all weekend digging foundations....oh the joy ...and I now need to spend £500 to fill them back in..
  3. Well done Mark. There must have been a big gap for you to get under the fence
  4. Thats going to be one snazzy bit of kit. I have had to take my N750A off the .243 as it wont focus and put the Photon Yukon on as I know there are some "wary" foxes on a couple of permissions and given the 50,000 odd chickens that will soon be let out I need to get them dealt with. I had a few shots last night to get it zeroed and it is good to go. Lets see what the end of the week brings. Enjoy your fishing months mate.
  5. Good work mate. I did think the rifle was looking a little bit flash...I though that you had sold all of the organs that you could live without and your kids so how can you afford these extra bits
  6. Well done Mark, thats a nice buck and a cracking start to the season.
  7. I had a call yesterday that a fox had killed a couple of chickens at one of the farms and had proceeded to eat one in full view of the farmer and he was able to get within 15 yards of the fox who seemed well aware he had no gun...cheeky swine. I headed out with the lamp last night to see what I could find. I was met with drizzle and mist so a bit of fun and games. Spotted one fox pretty early on but difficult to get a shot. This farm is flat so all of the shooting is off the sticks so range is more of a consideration then usual. To cut a long story short there was a lot of fox chasing finally culminating in a shot at about 130 yards at which point the fox ran off. As a result I was back at 7 this morning to see if it had returned for a morning taunt of the owners. I walked out to where I had shot at the fox and managed to find him about 50 yards from where he was stood when the shot was taken. The shot was straight in the boiler room with a 100 grain .243 round. I would have stood no chance of finding any signs last night as the corn was tall enough to obscure the fox in the dark. I forgot how much more tricky lamping was compared to NV work....lots more fox chasing Farmer was happy ... though I spotted another 1 as I was leaving with no chance of a shot so a little more to do. I am going to take my N750A off the .243 and put the Yukon on as the N750A will not focus.....hopefully Scott Country will get back to me soon...
  8. Sorry mate couldnt resist a bit of friendly banter I totally agree with you, I cant get on with Over and unders either. I have an old sbs and a pump action ...which sit in the cabinet on the building site being unloved and unused
  9. You know the feeling well mate. Fortunately the farmer has bought another farm down the road so I have a bit more ground to try and catch them on, the problem is that he has planning in for another couple of sheds...arrrggghhhh more daft chickens.
  10. Cheers mate, humor always helps and is often needed.
  11. HMRs with a "heavy" 16" barrel are lovely and light. I lug a Howa 1500 in .243 round with a 24" barrel....and I am silly I like chunky rifles and it shoots well but being skinny I do question my sanity sometimes. I have a lighter rifle that shoots well but I prefer the feel of the heavy rifle...once I have caught my breath Each to their own...we are all "silly" one way or another.
  12. Top work Mark. Good numbers up your neck of the wood mate.
  13. Well done mate. Sounds like you are going to be kept busy.
  14. How do you know that you prefer one then? You are "special" arent you mate
  15. Nicely done Mark. Nice work gents. I am shocked by how your brief report misses all of the fun and interesting points that Grant raises Nicely done mate. I am dreading the opening of the pop holes at one of my permissions...55,000 free range chickens and every fox for miles.....
  16. Big and heavy is good for general fitness....as I am well aware but totally agree that it makes no difference in the field. Like many thinks some like big heavy rifles..then secretly regret getting them after lugging them round for hours. Of course we cant admit such stuff as blokes dont make mistakes Nice bit of kit
  17. Doesnt make much difference mate...get it I have a varmint .243 and it weighs a tonne, I lug it round the fields for hours, but it shoots well and I like it so suffer in silence On the mod issue...it makes a heck of a difference so get one fitted or get some good hearing protection and upset the neighbours within the area.
  18. Back out last night to a new piece of ground one of my regular farmers has just bought. 132 acres of stunning ground with some river frontage. He decided to come out with me for an hour. Headed out with the NV rifle...big mistake. The scope is being a real pain in the backside and wont focus so all is a little fuzzy. You can still 100% identify what it is just a fuzzy fox, fuzzy rabbit etc. Headed out near the river and spotted a fox. Set up on the stick and squeaked the fox. Trotted obligingly towards me and at 70 yards it stopped and off went the bullet...off ran the fox......bit of swearing and shouting at the fox to stop it...at about 160 or so yards it stopped and fell to a head shot. No pic as a 58 grain .243 in the head is messy. Scrawny little barren vixen so not a bad start. As we were walking back there was some rustling and out popped 3 otters about 15 yards away. Cracking spot and nice to see so much wildlife. Need to get my NV sorted so lets see what can be done...really ****** me off...
  19. fair play mark, top work. Enjoy the takeaway buddy.
  20. Nice one Mark, nicely done mate.
  21. Well done Mark (and Ed and Grant)
  22. You are all a cheeky bunch of ****..... Apologies I have been knocking more of the house down for the past 6 days and felling and chopping up a big ash tree as well.... Well done to all of you guys who have been out and about and keeping the little blighters away from the lambs. I will get a pic of the boot rack when it is finished, it will have a hanging area for the man bag collection of course
