  1. I moved onto an over under about 15 years ago having always shot side by side, first season I thought I had lost it but it did come and never looked back since although I use autos and side by sides for fowling, it takes a while to get used to and you have to consciously stop looking at the barrels.(thats what I was doing I think)
  2. Kicks high flyers are for steel shot, they are larger diameter than standard size, full and x-full can be used for steel
  3. Krowe79, I think its a miss-print it should be a cork or felt packer inside the shot cup, I dont use that load but I do use CSBO and Multi metal or TPS wads with steel shot and 44 grains, I pack the inside to give a good crimp as long as the shot is just above the wad and set back will push it back into the wad. Not a gas seal especially 12g as this will not go inside a 10g wad. Eddie
  4. Why do you need a 12g gas seal for a 10g load ? if its just to pack inside the wad use cork 16g or felt. I have some Ballistic products 12g and 10g gas seals the 12g are 5mm but as I say why 12g ? Eddie
  5. Any news on how this paint is holding up after a bit of use please as Im thinking of getting some for my auto, cheers Eddie
  6. Water jet cutting is what you need, not cheap especially a one off.
  7. I use 21.5 grains as with a plastic wad cx2000 29 gram lead, so looks hot to me.
  8. I know its a long shot but Im looking for a set of barrels for a Lincoln 10 bore, possibly someone has a gun that the action or stock has gone but the barrels are reasonable. Cheers Eddie
  9. Tried to use Solwaycalls but admin blocked it as they say its a selling name so my passion is Wildfowling and my favorite is morning flights on the foreshore for geese. Eddie
  10. The Greylag Solway call does not need a lot of air pressure so it should not lock up unless you are blowing too hard, just a slow breath of air building in pressure slightly and use your hands to control the sound. The Pinkfoot call has a thicker reed and needs more air to get it going and with practice can be used for Greys as well using your hands to muffle. Have a look here goosecalls.co.uk Eddie
  11. A lot of British trained NHS staff including Nurses when qualified (which is paid for by the NHS) move onto private health jobs leaving a gap for foreign workers to fill. We have a big problem in this country employing skilled staff of any kind be-leave me as I have found. I employ 8 Engineers of which 3 are foreign (I have British apprentices) If I put a job in the local paper or local job center which I have on many occasions I will be lucky if I get any applicants, I have had lots of young local lads as apprentices over the years some have qualified and moved on but a good few have packed in half way through and said its not for me. I employ Polish lads because I have to and believe me they are good hard honest workers turn up every day on time work regular overtime etc (and they get the same money as the local lads) I agree with a lot of the media comments that foreigners take over and pinch jobs but as an employer what is the alternative ? Unfortunately British workers are hard to find and I would think the NHS has the same problem. Pensions and high pay appears to be another problem these days , anyone that works for the NHS, Police force, fire service etc seams to think that whatever the state of the economy and the low interest rate that dictates investment for pensions they still should have big pensions were as private companies like myself that pay a lot into a pension are given a pittance in return. Eddie
  12. Cold weather bans, if we all used common sense and restricted bags to a minimum during cold weather the powers at be would not implement a ban, unfortunately it seams some cannot do this so we have to be restricted. Voluntary restraint is far better than an imposed ban but thats gone for good now Some of the best fowling can be had in cold weather but its up to the individual to stop shooting when the birds are suffering from hunger and obviously easier to shoot. Eddie
  13. Scottish side of the Solway many years ago on Lady Hall, shot a Pink stone dead in the air, dropped 40 yards behind and to my right, 2 lads in the next holes springer ran out and retrieved it to them, after the flight I went over for my goose only to be told what goose that's ours, I said well if your that desperate for a goose keep it and walked off. Cannot see the satisfaction of claiming something you haven't shot, its hardly going to go in the shooting diary as a great shot is it. Eddie
  14. Thanks for all the replies, its not my gun I have a Browning without auto safe and happy but this lad wants it on his gun as he is used to that. Eddie
  15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271640785798?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I got some of this off ebay works well in fact I used it on some goose calls and they look good, Eddie
  16. OK thanks lads for the help, I will have to see if I can find a gun with one fitted and have a look, cheers Eddie
  17. A mate asked me to fit a safety kit purchased from York guns to his 525, I have fitted a kit before to a 424 with little problem but this kit (just a small lever cranked with a hole in it) does not appear to be the correct one for the 525. I phoned York guns and the guy says yes its correct ? Has anyone done this that can help please ? The 425 I used to have came with the kit and I fitted it in 20 minutes but this action inside looks different and cannot even see were it goes. Cheers Eddie
  18. It is illegal to sell wild geese and I hope it stays that way, the reason this law was brought in after the war was to stop the mass slaughter of geese which in turn will reduce the numbers . I know of people who do it and the police have been informed along with trading standards that investigate the meat processors who buy and sell on as other meat in sausages etc.
  19. Yes Robin at Conductor calls makes one of the Best calls in the UK in my mind, I have one of his duck calls he swapped it with me for one of my goose calls, very well made and a piece of art. Solway calls
  20. Thanks for the feedback on my calls glad you like my calls, have a good season. Solway calls
  21. Cheers for the feedback glad you like it have a good season Solway calls
  22. Good idea cheers Solway calls
  23. Only if they let me use Solwaycalls as my user name, some appear to use trade names as user names but I was not allowed HA.
  24. Figgy its just practice, contest calling in the US is a completely different game or so I have been told. To call any wildfowl here in the UK it just takes practice and practice. Watch as many you tube clips as you can and have a go. With the duck concentrate on a single quack first using your throat and chest not puffing your cheeks. Like breathing on a mirror to fog it up. As you breath mime the words GHACK or WHACK anythink like that to get the tongue and air going. Turn the call backwards and try doing it without the noise just to practice like clearing your throat. Not easy but it will come. Hope it helps . Eddie
  25. Thank you for all of the positive comments on here from my Customers, I didn't join PW to sell calls only to see what was being said as I was told by others to take a look. I have said before that call making in the UK is never going to make anyone a fortune, its a good hobby and a pleasure to get to know fellow fowlers who use whatever make of call to good use. Whatever make or type of call you use this season have a good one and don't shoot to many. Eddie
