  1. After a quick look into claiming back through hmrc I don’t think I’d be able to as I haven’t kept a mileage log throughout the year, i would be able to calculate the miles accurately as I have all my term time dates but the hmrc doesn’t allow you to create data for historical events. J
  2. I totally understand that, it’s the distance that has gotten to me. I have a 240 mile round trip where as the next furthest round trip is 140 miles, week to week I’m not to bothered as we split the fuel costs between 4 of us so it’s only £10 each. But they have now started to book us in for a day here and there which when you include a 5 hour drive with no traffic, if we hit traffic it’s often over 7 hours of driving, and it’s this which has made me ask the question.
  3. If it was the job that was in Preston then I would move or look elsewhere but there was no mention of Preston until we got the job as the company hadn’t finalised the arrangement yet (not going to mention the company as it’s a big one) I’ve already tried claiming mileage but they won’t let me because im on a personal policy, they say I’d need business insurance to claim any fuel back. Ill go to my union rep about whether or not I’m entitled to travel time.
  4. I’m on an apprenticeship at the moment but my college is based in Preston where as I live in Newcastle, the company provides accommodation during the week so I drive down monday morning and come home Friday afternoon. In previous years the company has used colleges local to its depots so on average lads where driving 10 miles to college, they have changed this year so that we all go to one college which is much nearer to 2 Depots than it is mine, the other lads have a 60-100 mile round trip where as mine is 240 miles. In law is there anything I can claim back to help cover costs? Jamie
  5. My browning gold hunter has the same markings, marked as 3.5, 3 and 2.75 all on the barrel
  6. Got the manifold and rocker cover back today and they’re like new just got to remove the broken studs from the exhaust manifold nd then I can refit everything pics to follow
  7. Finally some progress!!! Sorry it’s taken so long but I’ve started a new apprenticeship and they sent us to college in Preston so my weekends have been spent trying to spend time with Friends and family and going shooting haha. The chassis is painted, the axles are currently getting a coating of red oxide before being painted in buzzweld and the new parabolic springs are in place. The fuel tank is also painted in oxide and buzzweld. All the mounts for engine and gearbox have been stripped, wire brushed and repainted before being put onto the new chassis. The engine and gearbox are getting steam cleaned today and then I’m taking the rocker cover, both manifolds and the sump into work to go in the parts cleaner/shotblaster to tidy them up. I’ve also bought some correct engine blue paint for a 3MB engine that I’ll be putting on the engine when I get a chance.
  8. We had a 3.5 silver pigeon as a college gun at newton rigg and I hated the thing, it just felt like a fence post to me and had no feel or anything too it. If it suits you then go for it, cant deny theyre well made but it just didnt feel right in my hands

  10. All totally standard vehicles owned from new by the estate ditchy
  11. Viking I think the jerkiness you're talking about at low speed is a tdci thing, the 8 defenders where I used to work all jerked when pulling out of junctions etc. Unless you ride the clutch in 1st or set off in 2nd with plenty of revs. Ive always believed it's to do with the 1st gear ratio being lower than normal. It was explained to me as being a 6 speed box with an extra gear at the bottom rather than one at the top. The engine noise is totally different to tdi/td5 because it's a common rail fuel system and also it's one less cylinder than a td5. I'd just drive it a bit more till you get used to it and I'm sure you'll fall for it! Bob
  12. Thanks evo I've found s couple of mk38 in price range and I'll have a look at those 7000's as derby is only about 2.5 hours each way Cheers
  13. Cheers Jamie Also, are the older models,,3800, 6000 etc. Worth getting or are the newer mk models much better?
  14. Hi everyone I've been looking at mirokus as a replacent for my bettinsoli crypto. I've been seeing mk38 and m3800 and then mk60 m6000 etc What's the difference between these guns and do they warrant the extra price? It'll be mainly sporting with the odd bit of decaying/game etc. What would yous recommend? Mk38 browning 525? Etc. I'd prefer multi choke if possible

  20. Hello folks Bit of a difficult question here... A couple of years back I read a really good book about the Battle of Britain, it was one pilots personal account of the battle and I would love to read it again but I can't remember the title and can't for the life of me find it in the house. What I can rember is one really memorable account from the book where the author is returning back to base and comes across another plane flying dead straight and level, he goes in close to the plane and sees the pilot slumped back dead at the controls. He follows in formation for a little while until the other plane slowly changes course and he leaves it to continue back to base. I remember thinking what a respectful and somber moment that would have been for the author. I know it's not a lot to go on but any help or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. I've just finished reading first light by Geoffrey Wellum and would like to read some more first accounts on the subject. Thanks Jamie

Hi guys It's my 21st Coming up soon and my dad has said he'd like to get me a decent watch to keep. Thing is we've only got around £200 to spend. I appreciate I'm not going to get any big names like tag, Rolex etc. But does anyone have any reccomendations in that ball park? Could possibly push to £250 but that's realisticly the max Thanks Jamie
  23. Speaking as a keeper I'd say it's more likely he's got his auto with a cartridge sticking sideways out of the breech with the bolt closed on the head of the cartridge (think breech flag) All the keepers I work with regularly do this to show the gun is safe/empty
  24. Looks like you'll need a new forend, not many people could fix damage that serious and if you do the gun will never be the same 😉 I'd just give it a quick drop of something if you're really bothered but most of my guns have much bigger scratches than that and they're out in all weathers and I've never had an issue yet Jamie
