I suppose it depends on what you want it for, what load you want to fire through it? I have tried all of the fiber wad cartridges that just cartridges sell. not on a pattern plate but decoying pigeons. they all work, depends on what speed you want? even though this may be purely perceived. I shot my second ever century with the lyvale load, 30g 6s (tired after 140 odd shots) and some of my best birds with the hull clay cartridge, 26g of 7.5s.....so go figure. Like I say I hanker after an English sbs ejector with 1/4 and 1/2 chokes, 30 inch barrels and a 15inch stock. (highly figured pretty wood and amazing hand engraving) all for £500 if anybody is selling one......

Be very interested to see how you get on.....

I have a browning "white lightening" 16, it weights under 7lbs. I have extended chokes in 28inch barrels. It is also a straight hand stock version which i have had significantly lengthened. I don't find it too barrel heavy. At 6ft2 and 100kg odd i find it very easy to shoot with. love shooting 16s, i have never felt undergunned since changing from a 12. My sons william ford (1905) is an absolute gem to shoot with, if was and ejector it would be all i would use. Hopefully he grows into it quick, I bought it for him when he was three weeks old. he is now 14 months....

Hi all, has anybody done their own. I am after the rubberised type, preferably roller applicable so I don't have to mask of the whole pick up.... Line x are an option but at 650 odd for the job I think I might do it myself.... just wondered if anyone had tried it out or had any recommendations?? cheers ZT

good advice lads, thank you!

anybody tried the INSA turbos??

I thought the hull pro 16s were 26g, but yes, they are fine for my limited ability. Never tried the cheddite ones, are the available mail order?? I have tried the Rottweil 16F carts they are markedly quick, the 7s our 6.5 are a fine pigeon load indeed. I like Eley VIPs, in 6s and 7s,the 30g 5 load that they do is a monster of a cartridge. However I think my current favourite is the Lyvale 30g 6 cartridge. I am using 1/4 and 3/8ths in my Browning white lightening, bought some extended chokes from Briley.

Hull also make a 26g 7.5 clay load, which aint bad!!

Thank you! that explains a lot So I am not loosing any performance really shooting a 16 gauge vs a 12 gauge and normal loads 3g of 6s lets say!

I am now shooting with a 16 gauge browning. My question is two fold really. Possibly three fold...... Firstly am i right in assuming that in a 16 gauge 30g 6 (English shot size) cartridge there are less pellets than a 30g 6 12 gauge cartridge? From what I thought I understood was that the pattern was the same, but the shot string was shorter?? (shot through the same choke) (Writing and reading that back has made me question that too, if there are less pellets how can the pattern density be the same??) Secondly, if a given cartridge gives a muzzle velocity at for arguments sake 1350 fps , does it take more powder to make a size 4 shot go at the same velocity as at size 7 shot cartridge. ( I thought i understood that the bigger shot the more energy was needed to propel it, and once moving it was harder to stop, that is contacted a target with more energy) Thirdly, does a 32 g load of pellets need more powder than a 28g load to achieve the same velocity? my poor little brain cant understand, please excuse my ignorance. cheers ZT

One thing I am not a fan of is the prevalence of the prince of Wales stocks on 16s, I have big hands and find them very uncomfortable. Oddly I love my straight hand stock. I think that might be due to learning to shoot with a straight hand stocked side by side.

stuck mine on the scales, its just under 7lbs. that is with extended briley chokes and a fair sized extension on the stock. I am 6ft 2 so needed to extend the stock a fair amount. Not yet....
