new to the flock
Keep hearing how much fun shooting rats is with a air gun, so I have decided to give it a go. Seeing as there is a rat problem in the one section of my fathers barn...the chicken coop area, I figured I would sight in one of my pistols for 10 meeters which is the longest shot in the area. After sighting in a power line pistol using a red dot scope I shot this 5 shot group at 10 meters....I think it may pass.... Now if I can just get over there tonight I plan on giving it a go....wish me luck.....LB that doesn't mean BAD luck either...... :o

Jon-Boy
Sorry to say but, its illegal to shoot any animal with an air pistol (6ftlb) not quite sure what the legal limit is. I know it will do the job but, its up to you! As long as no one is looking Plenty enough power at that range

badsworth
There is no law against shooting vermin with an air pistol! (in the UK) What HAVE you been reading my friend? B

dunganick
i am not certain about this, but to my memory it is illegal to shoot an animal with an air arm which is under 6ftlb, and as it is also illegal for an airpistol to be over 6ftlb the one does lead to the other gemini, sounds like one for you mate however, notice that new to the flock is not from around your way jon-boy Edited July 17, 2005 by dunganick
apbuild
NTTF, I guess the laws in Canada are different to the U.K. I suggest you check it out and enlighten us all! Cheers, Rob.
apbuild
I remember bullseying wamprats on Tatooine with a 6ft/lbs airpistol in my former life as a jedi knight........................ Sorry guys, the Stella is taking effect, Rob, signing off. May the force be with you!
Gareth0689
there is no minimum power requirement to shoot vermin with an airgun in the uk, IIRC you need at least 4ft/lbs when the pellet strikes for a clean kill.
jpw99
You will do fine NT but dont eat them LB Are you sure you can't eat them? They did on that war film called king rat and it did not seem to do the germans any harm :o Jim
Devilishdave
From memery it is against the law to shoot living creatures with air pistols below 6 ftlbs best bet is to give BASC a quick call and ask them. Dave
Gareth0689
there is a forum, not sure which one it is that is dedicated to hunting with air pistols in the UK. www.airgunbbs.com is the best air gun forum and you will get a ture answer to anything you will want to know on there. Hunter Gatherer
IIRC you need at least 4ft/lbs when the pellet strikes for a clean kill for rabbits you need 3-4FT/LB's when the pellet strikes so i would imagine that for rats or other thinner skulled vermin it would be alot less. HG P.S I Have taken ferals at 20yds(paced) with my 2240 pistol.
dunganick
rats are a damned side tougher than rabbits, you cant kill a rat properly with a chest shot the same as with rabbits, they are mighty tough animals
Hunter Gatherer
i was refering to head shots, a rats skull is not as thick as that of a rabbit. HG
