Marcus,

I woul'd recommend a lesson or two without doubt, not just to improve your shooting , but to understand what is actually happening when the shot leaves the gun...

I have been more than lucky to have been taken under the wing by two guys who have a wealth of experience....

also getting a lesson or two at the begining will sort any bad habbit's out....

I don't know any in south Wales but I am sure someone will respond.

good luck mate...it will be worth it :P

Look on the APSI website (Association of Professional Shooting Instructors) which is run by the guys that teach half the worlds Olympic teams etc.

If you down load the list of present members you will find a coach in your area.

If that doesn`t work get back to me and I`ll sort it for you. :good:

I would recommend getting some lessons i got them when first started shooting it helped me get my first SGC had mine at cottondale shooting ground on staxton hill with allen excellent lessons helped me alot with stance and with general shooting was told i am a fairly natural shot it always helps with someone telling you were your missing a clay and how to best over come it once you know you hardly miss same target again.

Marcus,

My father found the lesson at SW2000 pretty good. He was coached by Steve who, as mentioned above, is a good guy and patient coach. It was difficult for him because my father shoots off the right shoulder but is left eye dominant but Steve identified this and helped my father compensate. There were a couple of flies in the ointment: namely the forend breaking off the Lincoln they were using and then the trap breaking down totally. Also the weather was hideous.

Overall though, quite satisfied. My father went from hitting 0% to hitting about 80%, which I would say is a good return.

Judged by the fact that 9 out of 10 shooters I meet can't shoot worth a toss and some are downright dangerous to boot I'd say it should be made compulsory BEFORE you get granted a SGC to have a series of lessons and NOT from a pal but from a well known, respected and qualified instructor.

And that's from someone who hates all types of rules and regulations!

I've had 1 lesson at Steve Smith's. £45 for the hour including clays and carts. I found it a good introduction to clay shooting but they recommended that all I should need after that is practice when I get my own gun. I think £45 is quite expensive but it was productive and I'm glad I had it so I can start properly and hopefully not pick up any bad habits. I'll consider having a few more after trying the clays myself
