George1990 Posted October 23, 2009 Report Share Posted October 23, 2009 Boxlocks are generally stronger, as the wood is thicker where it joins the action. Think boxlocks are more robust too. A cheap sidelock is more prone to problems but there is nothing better than a good sidelock. If in doubt go for a boxlock every time. welshwarrior Posted October 26, 2009 Report Share Posted October 26, 2009 A good sidelock is a lovely gun gun to shoot and look at. However a good boxlock will always bet a bad sidelock. I use both. A good boxlock has less wood removed from the head of the stock and is therefore stronger. I like to be able to get into the locks so prefer either a Droplock or Sidelock but thats just me Alot of old double rifles where Backlocks so they must have been quite strong.
