George1990
Well, was invited last year but couldn't be fagged ??? But will be my first time on a shoot. But what sort of thing does the host expect from you? And is it true that birds shouldn't be shot below waist height (heard this ages ago somewhere) and other un-sporting shots Any general tips on etiquette - don't want to show myself up! soreshoulder
if they are at waist height just drop down on one knee But seriously, unsporting birds should be left, but i comes down to what you feel is sporting, Dress smartly and if you take a dog make sure its well behaved or if not on a lead. Take a bag of sweet or something to break the ice with the other guns. Have consideration for the beaters and pickers, and makes sure you know the rules on what your allowed to shoot. Just be safe and enjoy yourself and say thank you at the end
Blackbart
If you were invited last year and you "couldnt be fagged".I am suprised you got another invite. But since you have, listen to the pre shoot talk, things like no ground game, stop shooting when the whistle blows etc etc.Try and not shoot anyone or their dog and dont take low unsporting birds.Enjoy the day and tip the beaters if there is any and a few quid for the keeper. mmm_a_luv_a_fish_supper_me
Just shoot every thing ! Especially birds that fly over the guns next to you. Take a bottle of port/sloe gin & some plastic cups for a wee nip wen you all meet up. MMM Fish
George1990
Well, not quite true that I couldn't be bothered. I was stuck at university. This year's timetable has been slightly more forgiving. Cheers for help It is very informal mind you - no pegs, beaters or picker uppers. Just a laod of old blokes shooting and dogs picking. But still don't want to do anything frightfully awful, what, in front of the game keeper who invited me
dick darstardly
I would imagine all will come clear with regards to what can or cant be shot during the pre shoot brief, best to over dress the first time rather than turn up and regret your choice of clothing, if you turn up and see someone and then decide the tie is overkill you can take it off. Drink as mentioned will always go down well. Generally if there is not blue sky behind the bird then shooting is not allowed.

To add the glaringly obvious, be conscious of gun safety and where your muzzles are pointing at all times, even when your gun is in its slip. Have fun. unclestuffy
Have a chat with the game keeper because he will tell you all you want to know. Also do ask him how much it is for the game keeper tips, money for lunch etc

B) Ta Do you rate yourself as middle class or upper class? Once you have categorized yourself then apply yourself accordingly. And remember no Hatsan Escort shotguns, otherwise you will automatically be lower class...............
George1990
Well, was nice and low key. Few of us wondered throught he woods with some guns on the stubble below. Then was my turn walking in the field having them flushed out over me. It was more of a jeans and Barbour type affair. I had my tweed coat on for good measure
