KennyB
picking up on my shoot Saturday i sent one of my dogs for a runner, He brought back this big old cock bird, As i took it off him and tried to position it for the priest it gave one last go to escape and yes it spurred me straight in the wrist , when the guns ask me where the blood was coming from i told them and they fell about laughing very quick to remind me that i got done last year as well, lol lol Anyone else been done lately? shoughton
Both of you - bleeding is good as it flushes out the wound. Make sure you're up to date with tetanus and go to your doctors at teh first sign of infection (redness, soreness, heat etc). I had a good friend who got very ill through having no tetanus jabs and receiving a similar injury on abarbed wire - got very serious! henry d
i was beating on a shoot ......... one of the guns shot a rabbit............. Not a shoot I would return to, I don`t know any that allow ground game.
garyb
Same here M... We have a total ground game ban... Foxes are at discretion.
Boromir
A grouse more near Stirling allows shooting of Hares, so whats the problem with ground game?
shoughton
Not a shoot I would return to, I don`t know any that allow ground game. All depends upon the layout and organisation of the shoot. If it is organised to allow ground game then there won't be any problems. The danger only comes from people operating to different understandings. Shooting ground game when it has not been agreed is incredibly dangerous. Shooting ground game when that's what everybody is expecting (dogs on leashes and beaters in safe positions) is absolutely fine.

Not heard of rabbits doing this, especially as they're normally carried by their back feet - but I guess it would definitely be on the cards if they were wounded. I've never struggled to tell if a rabbit was definitely dead - the ears drop forward and pupils fully dilate. This one must have had some sign of life or at least a twinkle in it's eye
MC
A grouse more near Stirling allows shooting of Hares, so whats the problem with ground game? The problem being that you would be shooting in the direction of the beaters and obviously shooting low. A recipe for accidents. If ground game is banned altogether it eliminates that. I don't agree with the "Safe fox" bit either as it is all too easy to not see beaters with the red mist descending when a fox makes an appearance. borntoshoot
we dont shoot any ground on our shoot but on our shoot mostly guns are only under cover crops or in a valley so if it were allowed then it would be safe alot of the time anyway.
