snipe
Hi, I currently have a 686E, which is a great gun. However, it is a sporter and I'd like to get a (second-hand) game/field gun, and something with a bit flashier stock - I know, that's purely aesthetical. I have narrowed my search to 3: 1. Silver pigeon SC game. 2. Silver pigeon 5. 3. 687 EELL. Can anyone provide any insight into the above for me please? along with any pros/cons. Is there likely to be much difference between the 3 (other than price!)? Thanks in advance, Snipe.
countryman
Hi I wouldn't go for the EELL, it's a lot more money for basically what is the same gun as your other two choices. I have had a EELL and although this is just my opinion it's not worth all the extra money. Cheers Chris
jimmyb79
I think the Silver Pigeon 5 is in the 687 range whereas the Silver Pigeon SC is a 686. The SC will be almost identical to your 686E, but I'm not sure what the differences are in the 687, I think its only cosmetic and the actions will be the same. I have a 687 Silver Pigeon 3 20 bore and it is an amazing gun to shoot. If you're looking for something a bit flashier than a 686E, the Silver Pigeon III or V is a good way to go. Agreed about the EELL - not worth the extra money. Edited November 20, 2009 by jimmyb79
snipe
Countryman + Jimmyb79; spot on, thanks a lot for the advice gents, especially on the EELL, which was really pushing the boat out anyway - happy to learn from others' experience!! Ok, taking the SC out of the list and the EELL, we're down to one, the 687 5. However, would now add the Perennia to the mix, which is quite a new addition to the range. Anyone have any thoughts on this one? used one? Phoned a secondhand dealer who had a Perennia for £1595 in mint cond. Thanks, Snipe.
snipe
p.s. Jimmyb79; I see from your list that you own the 686E. Do you have it purely for clays? and use the 687 for game? Thanks, Snipe.
robmiller
I have the SPV, great gun. Its a game multichoke. Light, but have done 100+ carts through it and still doesnt bother me. Light. No probelms at all. Good make. Buy a new one and you get 10yr guarantee. If you fancy one of these and you want a multichoke game, drop me a message as can direct you to a shop thats doing them at a very good price! Thanks, Snipe. I used to use the 686E for clays until my wife pilfered it and had the stock chopped! I now use a Browning Ultra XS for any clay shooting and take my silver pigeon out on game days. I'd like to get another 686E though for myself as you just can't beat the versatility of the gun. If I did buy another, I'd probably take it both clay and game shooting depending on the day. snipe
Ok, have opted for the SPV - great looking gun. Thanks for all the input. And to RM for the link What should I get for the 686E sporter MC, which is in mint condition? Realistically? Thanks for all your help gents, it makes the learning curve a lot easier. Snipe. jimmyb79
If its mint condition - in part exchange I'd reckon about £900-1000. If you're selling it privately, probably nearer the £1100 mark. You can also check guntrader.co.uk for current prices. Best of luck with the new one! snipe
Thanks Gents. Picking my SPV up on Thursday - nothing like a bit of impulse shopping!! Shooting with it Thursday evening, then Friday and Saturday, so should give it a baptism of fire!!! Snipe.
