steveb
Just had a word with the garage, and it looks like my 2003 shogun needs a new fuel injection pump, quote £3000 from mitsi, or at least £850 to recon mine. Any one know of a good diesel specialist in glasgow area, the recomended garage can't touch it till the new year. Also typical all this snow + brand new grabber at2's and the cars off the road till the new year

shot shot
3000 for a new pump, this might seem harsh, but is the car worth it?

gixer1
Steve, Just a thought, but a friend recently had problems with an L200 and it was diagnosed as a pump but turned out to be debris in the tank/filter as they changed the pump and it did not cure it, always worth a second opinion at that price! Regards, Gixer
steveb
course the car is worth it, only bought this summer for 7K just fitted £450 of all-terrain tyres, and to top it has only done 55k. what has happened was about a month ago it got a bit sluggish to start two attempts max to get it going, then at the weekend there, started with billowing smokeon start and while driving with very lumpy running, and the engine warning light got it to my garage (that my family has used for 15years and trust) and they got three fault codes relating to the fuel injector pump and a sensor in the unit, so it is going to get a refurb in the new year at a cost of £800 ish plus removal and fitting. on a plus side i did get a basic warrenty with the car to cover the first 1k of the bill and they have ok'ed the work. just wish it hadn't decided to let go at xmas
crazyfarmerboy
that is a ******, personally i would go for a secound hand one, from a local scrap yard or ebay, should not set you back more than a couple of hundred, but i would also fit it myself and it may be worth getting it reconditioned rather than a new one, good luck with it
steveb
Did look at getting one second hand, but looking on a couple of shogun websites there is a chip that has to tie in with the main computer so it is recommended to get your own one reconditioned. steveb
Update Just phoned the garage to be told the car wil be ready on monday, the problem was a broken wire to the timing solinoid of the fuel pump. thanks to the garage that stuck at it and used his skill to fix the problem, glad he is not one of these types that say the computer says it's the fuel pump that will be £3.5k to fix
tweedledee
turned out not so bad then.jap stuff is normally reliable.glad it did n`t cost you 3-5k. hard enough to find at any time let alone after xmas.
