scrob
Hi guys, I was just wondering how you determine whether a rabbit is safe to eat? Here in Londonderry (Northern Ireland) we have had a lot of rabbits suffering disease such as myxomatosis and it is really making me doubt whether I would eat a rabbit I have shot. There are lots of them around my way and the majority of them seem pretty normal (you can spot the myxo ones quite easily) but at the same time I'm just not sure how to know if they are safe to eat. Please advise! My whole family think I'm a bit weird as they are so used to seeing the odd dodgy rabbit and they say if I eat one I'm on my own! scrob
I wouldn't touch a mixy rabbit myself, but I was just wondering if the general consensus was that normal looking rabbits are fine for consumption? It seems easy enough to tell when they are infected but at the same time I think I'm maybe just a bit paranoid..

vole
I shot a couple recently and would have kept them but for the general bad condition. Skinny and bedraggled. Poor bleeders.

Frenchieboy
It is a medical fact that you can eat a rabbit that has Mixy without any ill effects, however the thought puts me off so any that I get are fed to my mates ferrets. Haven't had any with Mixy this year so he gets the ones that have been hit hard with the 17HMR for the ferrets, but I had better keep quiet or you can bet that we get Mixy showing it's ugly head in our area within a short time from now! christy
Shot plenty with mixy over the years. It's a duty to do so. Poor ****. But m8ts I would sooner bang my head on the stacker truck than eat one of them. No-no-no sooner go to rehab! Some things aint right and that is one of them.
