kyska
Mods, not sure where to put this, obviously move at will. It appears I am now allowed to have a go at the fox on my permission, landowner didn't realise how many were about until the snow fall! (and blimey, I've found rabbit activity I didn't know was in some areas, hurray for the snow) Does anyone know the calibre restriction for Leicestershire and Nottingham for fox please? Compouding element is I have a Leices FAC but shoot on Nottingham, do I ask Leicestershire or Nottingham? What happens if Leicestershire say one calibre and Notts say another. I'm getting so fed up with doing the liasing between the two!

kyska
notts allow 17hmr for fox.got it on my certificate. You beauty!!! I'll ring tomorrow, after checking my FAC for the finer details, is there any issues with ammo? Can I just use my v-max?
killer_pigeon
typical, there really should be some consistency between these police forces so we stand half a chance of not breaking the rules.
Wiggum
I had some permission in leicestershire but my FAC was granted by Derbyshire police and when i had the permission cleared for .22lr it was done by leicestershire also on my FAC I was cleared to shoot foxes with my .22lr . I suppose the best thing to do would be to contact Nottinghamshire police firearms dept and enquire with them. Or have a word with you feo im sure he will put you right

This could get confusing, as countys aren't stated on FAC. Killer_pigeon, I feel your confusion!

Chaps...it's not confusing at all, whatever it says on your FAC is what you can do, it doesn't matter which county border you step over! There are only possible differences if you go to different countries, not different counties! YOUR FAC is YOUR FAC issued by YOUR Police Region, NO other police region in the country can override it! If they have a problem then they take it up with your region...NOT YOU!!! Your FAC is NOT County or Police Region Specific, it is COUNTRY specific!! EDIT TO SAY.. PS...PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE USE OF COUNTIES AND COUNTRIES ABOVE! Edited January 11, 2010 by Dekers

I ask as, for example, Leicstershire grant .17 for fox, but notts prefer a larger calibre, who is right? If none are whats the point of any calibre restriction? I've just looked at my FAC, mine says that I am authorised for the use of .17hmr, .22lr, .22wmr (plus mods) on any vermin and ground game on land deemed suitable by the chief of constable Does fox have to be specified? I know this academic, so the posters saying contact your FEO can relax as I'll be doing that in the morning to clarify, but it make interesting topic! I know this academic, so the posters saying contact your FEO can relax as I'll be doing that in the morning to clarify, but it make interesting topic! It is not a matter of who is right, it is a matter of what each region is prepared to issue, that doesn't make one right and one wrong!! You do not have an OPEN certificate, so (without getting into technicalities) all land you shoot over needs to be cleared, this makes life a little more involved! I can understand the confusion here but the fact is..for example, if your region issues .22LR with a FOX condition then you can go and shoot fox in a region where they REFUSE to issue .22lr for fox (if the land is cleared for .22lr)! As to whether FOX has to be specifically listed on your FAC, then this is now open to considerable debate as well. Some areas still insist on the word FOX, others accept it comes under the heading vermin, others say it comes under any other lawful quarry, others refuse it point blank for some rimfires!! Like it or not you will have to talk to your FEO on this one! Confused..yep, I can understand that... I've been at this game longer than I care to remember and the Government, Home Office, and Police have never got their act together Nationally!! Dave-G
FAC is based on your county of residency. To help put your question in perspective, my Brother is licensed by Devon and Cornwall. He has fox on his rimfire cartridges - and can shoot fox in Cornwall or Leicestershire with it when out with me on my permissions (or any other county). I am licensed by Leicestershire, without fox on my rimfire and I cannot shoot fox with it anywhere - even if the county conditions rimfire for fox, such as Cornwall where I sometimes shoot with him. I think leicester USED to be quite relaxed about rimfire for short range fox if one happened along while we were out for rabbit unofficially, but not as a reason to acquire one. More recent position is that it is no longer agreed. I was denied fox on any rimfire - and was prepared to get a WMR barrel for my Quad, which already have .22LR and 17HMR. As per home office guidelines fox is allowed on the least potent centrefire cartridges - and I have fox on my 17 REM which is my only Cf. In addition - whilst I had just had my ticket opened for rimfire I had to have the centrefire on restriction to cleared land for a period of three years again. You might like to get your CF application in ASAP with this in mind.

I'll ring my FEO and get some information.
kyska
Well I've spoken to Leicestershire FEO and I need a variation to state specifically FOX on my FAC and a .22 CF is the minimum. More money to be spent then
