WGD
Anyone got comments on any of these, I've narrowed it down to one of them - I think, open to new suggestions... apart from the titanium Quiksilver at nearly £600! Reflex (industry standard, prone to rust?) vs PES T12 (stainless but heavier than the T8) vs A-Tech (light, expensive and needs looked after). Interested in getting your feedback gents. Thanks Edited January 15, 2010 by wgd
6br
got an a-tec and had the others,I rate the a-tec better followed by the jet-z if you want muzzle mounted.

steve_b_wales
I've got a couple of T8's. A brilliant moderator and I've not had any problems with them. Steve.
njc110381
Ase S5 or North Star for me. They're very well made and not too big.
Gully
I was looking at these but when I picked up my rifle my RFD, Trevor at Country Pursuits in Rickmansworth took me to his range to show me the one he makes. It is stainless, goes on the end of the barrel and is smaller than all the others I'd seen. It weighs 450g compared to most of the others weighing 600 odd. It may not be the quietest but I shoot it without hearing protection no problem. Best thing? It costs half what the name brands cost. There you go Trevor, free advert. Pipmoff
Ase Northstar I have one on my 6.5 and a T8 on my .223. The T8 will get replaced with a northstar when it eventual rusts through.

Thanks Predator 8 has to be the choice over the T8 these days, particularly the P8 Compact, some number of baffles but shorter and lighter. ASE, as mentioned are good, but the likes of the S5 etc can screw up the gun balance! I hear quite good things about the PES 12 but it is heavier again. I know little of the A-Tech, although they are meant to be well built. Whatever you get will be a personal choice, but do your best to "try" before you buy, at least screw one on the end of the barrel, you will be surprised at the different effect many have on the gun balance! 6br
what I like about the A-Tec is it can be striped for cleaning an the baffles can be changed for different calibres and replaced when burnt out you can even change them to all stainless steel if needed as the first baffle is stainless and takes the worst of the charge I've got one on my 6mmbr and find it very good and better then most that I've tried but at £285.00 as you would expect at that price. and don't forget all mods will burn out in time.the a-tec is recommended to be striped and cleaned at 200 round intervals I striped mine at 120 just to see and it just had a slight dusting of carb on the baffles then left it at 200 round and there was not much more on the baffles and easily striped cleaned. the t8 is ok if well looked after and sprayed with wd40 as is the jet-z i still spray it with wd40 . the pes 12 ok but heaviest of the bunch.the worst one was the early wild cat mod made of stainless steel sold after 2 outings. as for the quicksilver titanium the reports are on par with the a-tec and jet-z, titanium heats up quicker then most other metals but cools quicker and should last a good few years but at £600 I don't think I will ever find out how good they are . 6br
Not experienced any of the problem you have had with your a-tec.but have herd of a pes mod not passing proof test and a keeper friend of mine going through 4, t8's in as many months with rusting and pitting problems, so it's possible to get a bad one here and there. I can strip mine down clean it and reassemble with out losing point of aim.
flytie
PES Scout? I have the T8 which works well, its replacement, the MYM from Border Barrels, is the only stainless mod to meet or exceed forestry commission working noise tests and looks to be a winner. ft
monkeymagic1969
Just buy a Jet Z and forget about the rest.
6br
Another thing to take into account is then the mod is around 50 mm in diameter and if you shoot solo as I do with a scope mounted lamp you will get reflexion bounce back of the mod because of it's diameter and needs a piece of card taped under the lamp to stop it.the quietest mod I've got is an old LEI had it years before any reflex type came out it's 12.3/4, inches long 1.3/4 diameter and the first 4 inches is the expansion chamber followed by 12 stainless steel baffles it makes a .243 sound like pip squeak .
