dunganick
get a cz 452 varmin with the brookes kit fitted the gun is great, the trigger brings it up to a very high quality trigger and its cheap as chips other guns to consider, the rugers (or not ) the sako quad, the marlin, the anshutz and i cant think of any others. out of these the brno (cz) is the cheapest and probably one of the more accurate (i dont own a 17hmr version so cant comment on accuracy) but im yet to come across a brno which dosent shoot well for the money that was spent on buying it. markbivvy
get a cz 452 varmin with the brookes kit fitted i,ll second nick. as for ammo, as far as i know there is no hornady17grn ammo to be had in yorkshire. so buy a box each of the rest, and see how you go. bigsam
i would go for the ruger .17. my mate has one and it is a very nice gun it has a laminated stock and a stainless barrel looks very stylish. he has got a 3-9x44 nikko scope with a t3 silencer and harris bipod. we use it on the foxes and not many get away ! he also uses remington premier magnum rimfire bullets through it
Sergeant
I have to recommend the CZ452 American, dosnt come with iron sight, so one less thing to worry about. Personally I cant rate the anschutz due to its persistent bolt lift. I have heard that the rugers have very poor accuracy?

Being left handed i may have a solution if it is a problem - i will put a elastic band around the trigger guard and over the bolt. Should be ok to operate the bolt but should also keep the bolt down too and being left handed the band won't get in the way of the trigger finger. peck
Whats all this **** about bolt lift on Anschutz .22lr rifles we keep hearing. :< I have owned one for the last 20 years and it has never ever been a problem. For me its automatic, take off safety and make sure the bolt is properly closed, i would have thought every one would make certain that the bolt on a rifle was properly closed before they fired it. Sergeant
I used / saw 2 anschutz on the same range on the same day, both persistently misfiring due to the bolt lift. a thumb in the right place sorts the problem but its not what i would want for a RELIABLE field gun. Go fo a CZ452, you cant beat them for the price.
RAMMER BURT
call me stupid (if you like) but what is bolt lift?
dunganick
the anschutz have a problem (or feature some might call it) which means if the bolt when closed and about to take a shot, is even slightly lifted it will not fire and the cartrdige will not go off the way to stop this is by holding hte bolt down with your thumb, but its not exactly what i personally would want to have to do for £380 worth of gun
