TonySmith
May sound a bit bias....take a look at a Lanber Sporting Deluxe, some tidy ones around the 300-400 mark,That will leave you £350 ish to buy loads of cartridges...... but whatever you get, make sure it fits you. VERY few people start with a gun they keep, most learn a VAST amount from their first gun and have a MUCH better idea what to buy with their second! I suggest an adequate gun that you will still be able to move on at a sensible price, that way if you and the sport don't get on with each other you will not have wasted too much money, and if you do go for it, you will still get a decent trade in for the gun you do want to get in a year or two!!
