stuey
Woke this morning by the posty, dropping off my new Leica 800 crf-y range finder from Macleods Rad the instructions and fitted the battery before going up to the loft to try it out. Tried ranging a few objects - cars, chimneys, windows and I am slightly disapointed. Unless I has the rangefinder perfectly still by resting it on the window sill, it was unable to range. Even a car not 30yds away was unrangeable, and i just got the 3 dashed lines in the display. How the heck will this manage a rabbit out to 200yds and fox beyond that? Does this sound faulty? cheers Stu

Dunkield
I have the same rangefinder and don't have those problems. You DO need to hold it steady for longer ranges as it has to 'focus' on what you are pinging. Are you pressing the button twice, or holding it down? Dougy
Are the batteries good, you will notice as they get low it will give the results you are having (mine does anyway) and as said you need to keep it still'ish until its recieved a steady signal back. sako751sg
Ive the same one and have no such problem.Unless its waving about a good bit,it usually registers a distance without a problem.Keep trying it for a while, but if it is too tempremental to the slightest movement,i would ask for another one. stuey
cheers BB, Have had the leica out again and after a call to the suppliers, i think it's a dud. Will not even range a house wall at 50yds with me resting on something to keep it steady. I tried in on a garage door and it worked, then wouldn't on the door next to it Just seems very fussy compared to a cheaper Nikko Sterling I tried which was just point-click-ranged! Bit peeved after all the hype I read on the Leica and especially as I was going to go out this afternoon and range a few areas on my permission Its just about to go in the post and I will await its replacement. cheers Stu

stuey
Well, returned the rangefinder to Macleods and a quick phonecall to them confirmed that they had recieved it and it was indeed faulty. New one arrived in the post this morning and it works brilliantly. A quick try out the window and it was ranging chimneys no bother. Will have to wait for the weekend now to field test it! cheers Stu
