stubby
do you have any experiance, other than hunting related stuff, certification is a must, starting off with a basic BPCA, as much as we all like to dream of getting paid the kill woodies and rabbits, its all the other stuff that pays the bills, wasp nests, cockroaches, rats and mice with poisons etc if you have no field experiance, your much better off starting with working for one of the big companies, as they will pay for your training, certification etc, and also give you the hands on experiance needed, method statements, risk assesments etc, these are a must if paying customers are involved, correctly filled out paperwork, then a few years down the line, think about starting up your own I started working for a company 4yrs ago, started at the bottom and took a pay cut bringing in just 16k yr, Im now on 26k, but having put out "feelers" theres no way I could afford to go it alone, oh, a full clean license is a must it is very enjoyable though, getting payed to shoot feral pidgeons all night, but thats only part of it Edited February 21, 2010 by stubby
jonevo
to be dead truthful its ****,people dont seem to want to pay for the services if you have all the certificates and are upto date with the regulations you will only want contracted services for offering rabbiting and shooting for pigeons, the farmers will not pay, when little joe can do it for free. hard times Im afraid, I have been pest controlling for a few years and to be honest, Im out of it this month, as its not paying the bills have a long hard think to yourself. good luck
stubby
if you have all the certificates and are upto date with the regulations you will only want contracted services I'd say thats true for the larger companies, but the small trader (like myself) still get job satisfaction from one off jobs (although thats 3 visits)
Quist
There's no easy rides nowadays. If you are prepared to work hard and do a lot of driving, the opportunities are there. As a sole trader its very hand to mouth.
unapalomablanca
i spent 450 on an ad in yellow pages which expires next month. so few calls wasnt worth investing in all the traps etc. too many operators and too many diy pest controllers, too easy for the public to sort out pests with all products easily available online. learn from my costly mistake and do something else. Woody79
Websites can be easy and keeps the costs low the rest as per as already been said vista, business cards, flyers etc. Even cheaper is to print them up yourself...
