robmiller
Ok, we all know the RFD route. However a gentleman looking at a gun i have has been quoted £45 which to me sounds very unfair. Can anyone please document in simple terms any alternative ways to transfer a gun without having to travel or RFD. Appreciate if there is none? BlaserF3
Can you not post it in three separate parcels You are then not posting a complete gun.

peek-at
no.... it is still a firearm whether cpmplete or disassembled and a transfer needs to be done face to face..... this is in order that the certificate is checked/updated. berettaman
As usual the law has the final say,but most rfd,s tend to charge about £25 which is what i have been charged ,last transfer was a year ago like but £45 is a rip off in my eye.trouble is if he is your only local rfd its a case if supply and demand, you dont have any more options
BigG
The gun trade is a face to face business. The only way is to become a RFD (don't bother) or use a RFD. I pay about £30?
Thumpersniper
go pick it up, ive waited a month or so after paying close to a grand for a rifle still aint seen it still waiting and starting to wish i'd have paid the extra couple of hundred for a new one i'd have had a few go's with it by now! waited a couple of months before that for the variation! depends how patient you are! sitsinhedges
I just had a shotgun transferred for a tenner, £20 if he doesn't know you The shop in my town wont transfer at any price though, even though a couple of us went in there and spent £1000s a couple of weeks ago. They think they are losing a sale if they transfer from some where else I think
Shuck.
ive a question, if one of your mates owns an SGC and lives half way inbetween you and the bloke you want to sell the gun to, is he allowed to take it and sell it for you? Colster
ive a question, if one of your mates owns an SGC and lives half way inbetween you and the bloke you want to sell the gun to, is he allowed to take it and sell it for you? Yes, you can transfer the gun to him (saying you sold it even if no money changes hands is fine), fill in the appropriate columns on his SGC, then your actual buyer can get the gun from your mate at which point your mate will fill in the buyers SGC with the gun details. All three of you will need to send off something in writing to your FLO's notifying them of both transfers. So one form for you and the buyer, two for your mate Here's the one I use if that helps NOTIFICATION_of_TRANSFER_or_DISPOSAL_of_a_FIREARM_or_SHOT_GUN.doc Edited February 24, 2010 by Colster
Shuck.
cheers Colster, I thought it would be too easy for someone else to sell your gun for you if they didnt have it in writing, I was thinking if you could do a temporary 24h transfer and then get your mate to sell your gun (putting all the info of the actual owner((you)) on the transfer form). EDIT: reading this back it does sound a bit dodgy so wouldnt be surprised if it wasnt aloud anyway I was also looking for one of these forms so thanks again Edited February 24, 2010 by Shuck. Colster
That's an interesting point. you can loan a gun to a licence holder for up to 72 hours without doing any paperwork but it would mean your mate would need to fill your details in on the buyer's cert - tbh I'm not sure of the legality of that. I'd probably just transfer the gun to your mate and then he can "sell" it to the buyer. Can't be wrong then and it only means filling in a couple of forms anyway. Shuck.
yes I guess you cant go wrong doing it like that.. thats if it doesnt confuse the hell outta the firearms dept with guns flying about on the same day. I suppose what it all boils down to is: is it only the registered keeper who can fill out the buyers cert, cant remember if you need a signiture though and I cant read your form yet as Im at work ... wait i have my cert in my pocket Ill have a look edit: damn you do need a signature, doubt its poss then Edited February 24, 2010 by Shuck. It all went through the FLO without a hitch. Ironically enough I later sold it back to the guy who had sold it to the copper!
