al4x
Anyone got a really placid dog that loves everybody and then takes a dislike to someone? My soppy as anything GWP had a minor go at the local hoody the other morning, nothing serious jumped up barked and grabbed his arm not hard enough to leave marks but enough to stop him trying to act cool and this morning to start asking for compensation or his mum will phone the RSPCA I'm unsure whether he's been loitering arround outside the house on the high street or whether someone can give out really bad vibes to a dog as she has never done it to anyone in the past, obviously hood up hiding his face and hands tucked down sleeves she may have been looking for attention but looked more than that, as the ****** broke from heel and almost dived at him, he was definitely always been scared of her which I think probably had an effect but it was very strange. Obviously she won't be off the lead again in the area and fingers crossed its all words but who knows.
garyb
Give the dog some praise I say!
Bloke
I had a Great Dane once that was as soppy as anything, unless your face was hidden (Hood, Bike Helmet etc), then she freaked! Dunno whether that is why the young **** got to your dog, but tell him your dog is 'shopping centre trained' - i.e. no hoodies allowed That'll teach him to annoy the dog, what about the dog's right not to be 'put in fear' Hope all goes well and he doesn't make a complaint. al4x
I do wonder if it was the hidden face its pretty bizarre, though I do feel a bit better since talking to a few people and finding out that the old people from the home down the road seem to have been intimidated by him and a few of his mates so nice to get one up. I really don't need the agro from it though I'm fairly sure he was just after cash compensation you never know if it will go further. garyb
My cocker used to bark at black people... It's no joke, she had never seen them before I took her into a built up town for the first time! I suspect the hood up was the problem with yours alex...
al4x
I had two Jack Russels when I lived in a fairly dubious part of Hitchin and they did that, god it was embarrasing when they would put 6"2 black blokes into the hedge just by having a small go. I'm convinced its why we never got burgled there the hood makes sense and she also has a thing about hands likes to see them to be patted so I wonder if the fact he had them up his sleeves was an issue. She is very soft mouthed which would explain the lack of any evidence apart apparently from a scratch on his ribs where she jumped up. I mean if someones dog did it to me I'd have pushed it down and made a fuss

Paul in North Lincs.
alot of dogs get freaked out by a covered face...I would also recon the dog could pick up on negative vibes coming from the youth!!!! - good on him!

alfa taf
We used to have a German Sheep dog, really nice with every body, who would g o mad with anybody wearing a uniform. Not nice when out walking him and he would come face to face with a policeman.!!
Boromir
I was in my mums house and went into the bathroom without a hat on came back out with it on and my mums German shepherd stood her ground and started barking ferociously. She wouldn't let me move until I took of my hat off. I would say that dogs can read and judge our facial expression and that your dog couldnt see do so and was unsure. ziplex
I was at my sister's house one evening when my nephews mate wandered up to the glass fronted door, he's a very big lad, my GSP flew full throttle at the door and was very hostile , I was quite startled as she's such a meek/placid mutt. She quit as soon as I told her and was over him like a rash when I let him in, he did look a bit sheepish though Nothing like a Pointer who means business! I've often wondered what would happen if someone broke in, i'm thinking she'd cower or attempt to lick them to death GSP style but if she decided to have a go I wouldn't attempt to step in, she could look after herself very well
ForeignGadger
In the '70's we lived way out in the sitcks and were converting an old school. I was away and two "scrap men" turned up to scrounge stuff out of the yard; which alarmed my wife (home on her own with a 3 month baby). We had ours and my father-in-law's golden retreivers with us and they went ape-**** at these two guys... something they never did before. Our dog pinned one of them against a wall and was flashing his teeth 6 inches away from the smaller guy's face! (this was an 85lb dog). I guess they picked up my wife's nervousness and reacted. She called them off and the two jumped over the gate to get away. they threatened they would complain to the plod, but we never heard any more about it. Dogs can sense many things we don't even come close to getting: body language, pupil dilation, sweat etc. could all play a part.
