M ROBSON
Had bright sunny conditions with no wind for the last few days, it's made it very hard for pigeon shooting. We've seen thousands of pigeons each day but it's been hard to get a maximum bag of 30 birds per gun. Finally today we had overcast and windy conditions and over 2000 birds in our small valley. This Danish hunter had 105 for 220 shots, at the end of a strip wood and his decoys on a winter barley field. The birds weren't feeding there, just flighting over and having a look at the decoys. It's been a while since I've seen so many pigeons in my area. Cheers, Mark.

turbo33
nice bag happy shooterdont like his cartridge average though Unless thats tongue in cheek, I think there are a lot of people who would like to achieve that amount of birds in return for the amount of shells used. Flighting can produce some really testing and un predictable shots unlike decoying when they can often come right in to your area of choice and closer ranges. Well done Mark for supplying your Dane with some excellent sport. Edited March 6, 2010 by turbo33

M ROBSON
Thanks Guys. If everyone I take out could shoot a 2:1 average I'd see lots of big bags in the year. I'd say the average ratio I see from my clients over the course of a year is 4:1 I do get a fair few beginners though. Cheers, Mark.

Hendo
Great stuff Mark, I have just started to see woodplgeons in decent numbers on oilseed rape over the last couple of weeks due to the abundance of stubbles. With the better weather the farmers have been ploughing the stubbles which has left them with nothing else but the rape. I have one farm that grows clover I might give it a look next week. Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
Well done Mark Its unbelivealbe that there are some pigeons up north with the cold weather you guys have had. IT just goes to prove that the cold does not drive them away I thought more pigeons would be down with us south softies. Kind regards OTH
M ROBSON
Thanks guys. We always do have a lot of pigeons up here, I'd say this year the numbers are even up on normal. We had a 4 week long cold spell here but the snow in some areas was only a few inches deep, and down by the coast it didn't stay for long. From what I've heard we got off better than a lot of north east England and certainly better than the North/East of Scotland. I wouldn't be surprised if we got a migration of birds from further north to escape the snow. Cheers, Mark.
