best choice for semi auto

I am probably biased as I have a 10/22, but........

When I got mine the trigger was just about unusable. I would estimate the pull at around 7lbs!!!

I dropped out the trigger unit and sent it to South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies to get it sorted. Cost me about £30 and was only away for a few days. Trigger is now around 1 1/2lbs and great.

Feed it with Eley subs and make sure you keep the magazine nice and clean and you won't have any problems.

All the best, :D

Chris.

CZ 511, or an anschutz 520/525. Trust me when I say Ruger's are pants unless you want to spend a shed load of money on it. I'm not just copying what other people say, I've put well over 1000 rounds through one at a range.

Totally agree Whippet. The Ruger is bad in standard out of the box. Throw £300 at it and you have a very good 10/22

There is nothing more satisfying than stripping a 10/22 down and rebuilding it if you know what your doing .You don't really need to spend alot of money as i hav'nt spent any as i've always done my own smithing where my 10/22 is concerned.

A semi identifys the weaker powder loaded ammo because the spent casing is'nt ejected properly.

The extraction claw can be replaced easily but eley subs /stds cycle ok.

Basically an ideal first rimfire to cut your teeth on.

Having said all that i would now go for a bolt action ........Sako Finnfire as i much prefer the Europeon manufacturers.

It's all part of shooting ...............enjoy

Agreed, but you need a gun that shoots consistantly to start with.

If the gun/ammo combination is spraying them all over the place the best shot in the world isn't going to be able to hit much with it.

I would add, that IMHO bolt actions are nominally more accurate than semi's.

Good point Stuart :)

Allow me to explain my quote further and focusing on the rimfire.............

My school of thought is that these guns will out shoot their operator and are let down by the consistancy of the ammo.

You can improve the accuracy of a £250-£300 rimmy by altering the trigger and making sure the barrel is free floated if appropiate or bedded in to the stock better. The point being straight out of the box these rimmys need some basic attention.

Or you could just buy quality in the first place, but no doubt it'll still require tuning to your particular taste.

Either way whether cheap or quality the barrel should be true and i'm somewhat baffled by comments suggesting a particular brand of gun is'nt accurate no matter what you do.

Cheers

I don't think floating the barrel makes any difference with a rimfire, unless the barrel is paper thin.

Both of my centrefires are floated and one is bedded as well, but the harmonics are far more critical in both of those rifles.

I am not sure anyone has said you can't improve a gun no matter what you spend, but like you, I think why bother spending it when you can buy a decent gun cheaply anyway?

CZ's are about 200-250 quid and don't all need trigger jobs, they work just fine without all bits you have to throw at a 10/22.

I also agree that ammo can be a bit 'here and there' but then look at the cost of it :D
