Imperfection
You'll probably find local gunshops sell them at reasonable prices too.

VicW
Awge, What guage and what are you shooting, game or clays? Vic.
flytie
Local clay grounds are good places too, they shift a huge volume. I do research on the web/phone and see who's best, then ask locally if they can beat or match the price. When buying for our shoot syndicate we can often get free delivery from "just cartridges" etc. ft

Martin g
Welcome to the forum Awge.. As already mentioned above, also have you got your shot gun cert yet ?
VicW
Sorry Awge,I know nothing about pigeon shooting so can't advise. There are definite savings to be made by buying in bulk though; that is to say a thousand or more at a time. Vic.

Vince Green
I always think that all things being equal its better to support your local dealer unless his prices are way over the top. Usually they are dearer but then he has overheads to pay. If they don't get the support they close down (as many have) and then everybody is worse off. Our club chairman drove miles to buy ammo for the club from a bloke who sells it from home because it was a bit cheaper. Then when he has a problem with one of his rifles he expects to be able to go into the local shop to get it sorted. You can't have it both ways. Couldn't agree more, buying local is generally much better. I picked up a slab of Eley Olymics for £8 less than the just-cartridges price and that was without haggling ;-)

HDAV
Thanks Martin, I have posted the Shotgun Application form afew days ago, so I am just getting everything ready...cabinet etc...by the time I get the cert.... If you only posted the app off this week i wouldnt worry about cart prices for a while, took me 10 weeks to get mine through.. also you may want to check the location of cab with FEO before fixing it. Awge
I thought the best place for the cab would be inside a built-in cupboard... jackinbox99
Main thing with a gun cabinet is that it should be out of view to visitors to the house & bolted to a solid wall. With cartridges, as others have said, checkout your local gun shops. My local shop is always well over priced on his guns, but his cartridges are cheaper than anywhere else (incl Just Cartridges). I usually buy them at 1000 a time, which works out at a cheaper price. My local clay ground also sells cartridges for a decent price too. Awge
thanks for your reply jackinbox99, how much do you usualy buy the 1000 cat. from your local gun shop, so I;ll have an idea of the prices, because I havent bought any shotgun cat. before. thanks, Awge Main thing with a gun cabinet is that it should be out of view to visitors to the house & bolted to a solid wall. VicW
Awge, I buy all my cartridges from one of two local gunshops/shooting grounds and Eley Olympics 28gm plastic wad are currently £144/1000, Kent Velocity 28gm plastic wad are £132/1000. If you need heavier loads for pigeons then the price will be correspondingly higher. Support your local dealer if you can. Vic.
Guest cookoff013
cartridges and cheap never go together. best place to get them is locally. delivery is a rip off. i always get a good deal with my local, i dont even purchase less than 1000. they are a business, start a relationship with them.! there are a few exeptions. you can go to a farm shop. they usually sell one type of 12 cartridge. (so choice is poor. usually 30g #6) or use an alternate gamebore have brought out a superlite 21g shell, containing steel shot. they are really cheap, at 110 a thou. its a "steel". if i was aloud to use plastic. i`d buy 4-5 thou straight off. i have to use fibre only ! Awge
Thanks Vic and Cookoff for you replys, Ive got an idea of the prices now Vic, i'll pop in to my local gun shop today and check it out.... thanks Awge.
fortune82
Have you actually used a shotgun before? If youve had any clay lesons I would have thought the best person to ask would be the instructor as he has knowledge of your local area. Awge
Thanks fortune82 for the reply, no, not yet.....I went to my local gun shop and hes selling it 1000 cats. for £195 for pigeons
fortune82
I would get a series of clay lessons under your belt before you venture out on your own. The instructor will be able to advise you on the best places to shop in your area and the best load / shot size for different quarry. £195 for pigeon cartridges seems a bit steep! I just paid £208 for 1000 High Pheasant 30gram no.6 PDP which are a premium cartridge.
