Curly87
Talking about the ones that take a blank 12b cart. Does anyone know if there are any laws when it comes to using these? Had some yobs try and pinch my motorbike last night want to set one up incase they try it again so it will a) scare the !*&% out of them and b)wake me up But living in a attached house, is there any laws about setting one off near houses? Cheers, Tim
Imperfection
Other than waking your neighbours up-i cant see you breaking any laws because its only a blank cartridge and no projectile is being fired out.
Breastman
Other than causing a noise disturbance i can't think of anything Let your neighbours know and you could avoid possible complaints. Don't forget that if the little scroates are injured by it (hearing damage, powder burns etc) YOU will be liable :look: Mark
Curly87
Well if it means it stops my bike being nicked plus making the the yobs trying to nick it have a heart attack, I dont mind too much if I wake the neighbours. I would let them know it was there however
Billy.
As long as you warn your neighbours and they agree to it, you'll avoid getting done for disturbing the peace.
night owl
dont set it to low where a cat can set it off

Blunderbuss
A word of caution as I'd hate to see you in the dock, instead of of the bike thief scumbags. This is a bit of a legal grey area. Although "only" blanks. The 12 bore black powder blanks that come with these "alarm mines" go off with a fair old crack, and are capable of causing injury if you are next to them. If thieving scrote is near the blank cart when he trips it and is injured, or even just claims to be, you end up in court for criminal injury or similar charge. This probably has a greater penalty than nicking motorbikes Sad but true (and I personally think bike thieves should be burned alive in boiling oil), but I'd hate to see you lose your licences, or even your liberty What about heavy duty ground anchors, chains and alarms? Heladoxa
You can buy a pressure mat to set off an alarm in your bedroom. Put a a plank or a bit of sacking over it to disguise it. Dunnit and it works.
Heladoxa
Hello again. If you come anywhere near my place I have one you can have. PM me Bill
Bleeh
When I used to use alarm guns, I used to house them in a old oil barrel cut in half, with the open end pointed in the direction of what ever I wanted to scare the bajeesus out of. When that thing goes off, it was deafening.

This is the problem, the last thing I want to have to deal with a court case, and I bet they are just 15 year olds which IF caught would get a small tap on the wrist anyway! What a rubbish country we live in! Ive got a big chain on it, its an Almax chain, they say it cant be cut with any hand tools not sure how true that is but it did cost an arm and a leg! And that is around a 2 foot in diameter tree, so I dont think they will cut through at or at least if they hopefully it will land on them. gixer1
Speaking as someone who was a constant target for bike thieves and ended up moving house - use a live ... the sensible side of me says - sit and wait with 4 mates.... Have a chair ready in the garage and 6 big zip ties..... get said thief, zip tie to chair and set about his toes with a ball pein hammer starting with the "pinkie" toe... in reality there is not alot you can do although the "self defence" is a very good card to play...these scum bags wouldn't think twice about hitting you with a set of bolt cutters if it was the difference between getting caught and getting away. I spent months tracking down the scum bag group that was nicking bikes in my area and provided the police with more than enough evidence but every time one of them ended up in court they were described by thier brief as "victum of circumstance" makes you feel sick...
