tweedledee
guys i have a question to ask about hmr ammo.i bought 500 rounds of federal v shok and a couple of hundred of remington accutips at old stock prices when i bought my hmr.at the 50m range the federal grouped better than the remington.at 100 ms in the field last week the remington grouped much better than the federal. the remington seemed to be a quieter round as well and seemed to be nicer to shoot. the gun is a cz american with 20 inch heavy barrel. anyone ever had this before? steve_b_wales
There's been a few discussions on here regarding different 17HMR manufactures, and how some are better than others in their rifles. I have a CZ 452 Varmint and, at the moment, only use Hornady ammo. It seems okay, but I will buy a box or two of other brands just to compare. tweedledee
don`t get me wrong both give satisfactory groups but the remington accutips are on the thumbnail at 100.just group a tad tighter.i intend to use the federal as i know they will be accurate enough.just can`t explain the reason for one to be more accurate then not be as tight at 100ms.need another calm day for more testing. i have over 600 rounds in the house so i reckon i`ll have it sussed before i use them all
deputy dog
Hornady v max for me every time. Good accurate cart with one hell of a punch. Sub 1" groups at 100yrds. I did try a few before i settled with Hornady.
rad334
shot these yesterday with a 16" cz 452 american in 17hmr you can see much better grouping with remington than hornady. But when my gun was 22" it was the opposite. Im not saying the hornady were shooting bad groups but not as good as the remington. I shot these off a stand with no wind at all. Horrocks
I've got the same rifle as you tweedledee, started with hornaday and federal and still use both, i found remingtons rounds to be absolutely useless through my CZ and like you say, far louder. I find federal just slightly better than hornaday, for some reason different rifles appear to be happier with particular rounds, although they all seem to be manufactured by Hornaday. Dekers
Hornady V max for me everytime Les Hornady v max for me every time. Good accurate cart with one hell of a punch. Sub 1" groups at 100yrds. I did try a few before i settled with Hornady. It is a bit strange all round, mine is currently the full length CZ 452 Silhouette and it seems to like the Hornady best as well. It has been through a few thousand rounds now but when it was new it hated the Remingtons and 20g CCI stuff, upon using up a few part boxes of stuff not so long ago it now seems to deal with just about everything ok. Still not a great fan of Winchester though. No idea what that is all about!!
feaks
When my Varmint was new it shot virtualy everything the same. Two years later it definately prefers Vmax of either colour. It could be a "batch" thing for the other makes recently, who knows?
