Paul223
My missus had a go of a mate's semi auto today, shot about 40 rounds hitting just a bit less than half which to be honest I thought was very good, she is of a slight build and even the semi knocked her around a bit at first, so i'm after some recommendations for a first gun for her, the semi is a berreta A301. What are your collective thoughts on a gun which is light but easy on the shoulder, anything easier than a A301??
mickeylove
hi, im micky luv's lady, i am of slight build and have just purchased a hatsan escort junior model in 20 gauge, i have used it today and put 100 cartridges though it, i have really enjoyed myself and didnt have a problem using it, i also used mickys 12 g auto feeling a difference in weight and recoil, i recomend the escort! berettaman
Yeah i would have said anything in a 20bore should do the trick, Bm
mickmep
the ladies at the club i shoot at have all gone away from the 20 bores, all gone to 12's using 21 or 24 gram carts. they are using o/u's though. the reasoning being more weight to the gun stoping the recoil, although this may not help if the initial weight of the gun is a problem. my sugestion would be to try a 12 gauge urika with 24 gram carts for really soft recoil although the actual gun weight may be an issue. last time i tried mine wouldn't cycle the 21 gram carts, although others say theirs do. if budget comes into it a 12 gauge beretta 303 is a good buy, not tried the 24 grams through that though. my misses got on ok with a 12 rizzini o/u with 24's but preferred a 302 one of the lads at the club was using even though that was using 28's. best advice is the old bit of try as many as you can. SteveH
My daughter is 13 and has tried various shotguns over the past few months, but she gets on best with my 20 bore Beretta A301. After 50 shots or so she finds the weight a bit much, but recoil is not a problem - it cycles 24g cartridges without any difficulty, and even some 21g ones. Paul223
Thanks for the replys guys, had a text of the guy who we have borrowed the auto off and he is quite happy for us to keep it for a little while, plus we've got a small clay shoot to go to next monday and the missus is quite happy to try the A301 again, she has a big bruse on her arm from not mounting correctly (dropping her shoulder leaving the heel to mount on her shoulder ball) but she thinks with proper mounting the recoil may be ok, so a little practice mounting each night is in order and the same may help with her left arm strengh Rob thanks very much for the offer of trying the urika and o/u , well see what happens after the bank hol monday clay shoot although i must admit i'd rather be buying 12 gauge carts Is there any noticable differance in recoil between the older benellis and the beretta?
