adam f
Which ones please? I dont get on with Earmuff type ones, so prefer the in the ear type, but have been using soft foam ones, which seem fine for clay shooting but I really struggle in the field as I cant hear a damn thing - which is a pain when stalking or even trying to whisper to my lamping buddy! Can I get a set of in ear type plugs that allow a small amount of hearing, but will block a shotgun?
gixer1
These are fantastic, not cheap but very good, i have a set and would say they are top of the line - http://www.noisebreaker.co.uk/ Regards, Gixer
adam f
Thanks - they look good. What sort of price are they? I guess these are guys you see at game fairs etc where they mould you there and then?
steve_b_wales
Get a set of Napier Pro 9, or Pro 10 if you use centrefire rifle. They are not the cheapest, but are brilliant.
flytie
I bought a pair of earplugs that were cast by squiting goo into my ears. They have a small valve in them that allows some hearing. I cannot remember who made them, maybe em-tech? Not sure, i have had them so long i lost the box they came in. After having some Sordin Pro ear muff type for winter wear, I would really like a pair of the digital hearing aid type of plugs. The Sordins have spoilt me, i can hear stuff for miles away, they really improve my hearing. Going back to ordinary plugs is horrible now. The only bugbear is the price, but they have to be worth it, they allow you to hear so much and protect your hearing. If I keep telling myself that perhaps I will cave in and pay £450 for a pair.......................... not just yet though! ft

spence
Used these Sonic II's http://www.fieldandgun.co.uk/product-detail.aspx?ID=1666 for a while now. Shuts the bang out and can still talk. Cheap enough to try out anyway.

seeker
Check the NRR figure ... higher the better FWIW I use foam under Deben Electronic or Napier Pros (36)... that's when I'm not using the hearing aid to overcome the Tinitus. Some foam are around 30 nrr Some of the Sonic models are only 10 ... There's a Mammoth Earplug test here: http://www.shootforum.com/forum/articles.php I just wonder how they persuaded all the mammoths to spend their weekends on the range without anyone noticing! adam f
Superb - thanks guys, loads to look and and lots of options and opinions! I knew it wouldnt be straight forward, I also had a search on here and saw it's been discussed at length, seems there is no magic solution! You can listen to music, take calls etc, whilst still protecting your hearing.
bennyuk
I was considering Sonic 2 also, are they ****? I really cant stand wearing "ear muff" type either. I cant afford spending hundreds and the sonics looked good at £20.00 Is there anything else similar but better than the sonics?

spence
Not sure which Mammoth tested the Sonics but I don't agree with it. Find them very comfortable and never had a problem, used them for a dozen or so years.
seeker
Just checked the box ..I have 9s in my shotgun kit but my new Napiers are the Pro 10: about £36, I used them yesterday next to a 270 ... worked well and noticeably quieter. Maybe there will be a mammoth sale on the 9s ?
