foghorn
Hi, Lots of posts on this subject, you pays your money and takes your CHANCE. For example the other month i was talking to some guys who had traveled up to the York area to shoot, got two birds in total by lunchtime, they were then planning to move another 20 miles to find birds !. I and others shoot the same area. So my conclusion is some people travel great distance to find birds and may well be disappointed. My advice is to try for your own permission and if that fails join NPPC
yates
Hi lads this is my first post on the forum, i am thinking of joining the NPPC,can any NPPC members, give me their opinion of the club, and shooting, available in the South Yorks area, i have been in touch with John Shooter, seems an ok guy, any replies, Cheers in advance, MICK. Hi Mick There are three or four of us that are local to you that are members of NPPC. We have no problems finding places to shoot. Finding places to shoot with pigeons is a different matter! Trying to get a permission near to where we live if practically impossible as most of the guys that have the permissions have got things sewn up.(Can't blame them). I have got a couple of invites by meeting people at the Braithwell clay shoot on sunday mornings. As you live in Rotherham i assume that you know where the clay ground is. There isn't any NPPC land in South Yorkshire and the nearest is around Ferrybridge, but it only takes 25 minutes to get there. NPPC members can only shoot over rape fields and this can be frustrating especially when the surrounding fields been drilled and the pigeons ignore the rape and pitch into the field next door. You can see em but you can't shoot em. The choice is yours, as foghorn says getting a permission is the best option, but if you can't get one what choice do you have if you want to shoot. We've had some great days this year(not many), decent, and some a total waste of time, where not a shot was fired. One of the other lads from coming down from Huddersfield, a long way to travel to get very little. John Shooter is okay, late with the list, otherwise no problems. Cost wise it's very cheap and over all good value.

Hi yates & foghorn, Thaks for your replies, what you have both said, is about what i figured, i have been looking at posts about the nppc some going back a few years, they all seem to have the same theme, as you say all the shooting seems to revolve around rape, which as you know is a good crop for most of the year, if it's in the right place, but it has it's limits, if as you say the woodies are more interested in drillings, as they are starting to do now, i am suprised you say the closest land is at Ferrybridge, John Shooter told me there was land at Hatfield & Worksop. I have shot clays at braithwell gun club, it is only about 3 miles from where i live, anyway thanks again for info, weather i join , the jury's still out', i might sign up, if only for some extra rape to shoot on, over the back end, for what it costs, its worth a try, if its **** ill just not renew, when it expires. One thing you can help with is info on, crop lists, from what i can gather the new list is sent out between Nov & Jan, but on Johns email he said he was compleating his spring update list, so do you get a second list sent out with new fields that have been drilled,? cheers Mick. Just the other week i was on some rape when John rang me and asked how it was going, and when i told him i was packing up as i had not seen a bird for 2 hours he said meet me down the road if you fancy shooting over some fresh drilling's .. Ended up a decent day....

Hi hawkeye, thanks for info, it makes sense, farmers want pigeons, off their crop whatever it is, can you put me right about field lists, do you get a spring crop update list sent out, or just one in the winter, for the forthcoming year. cheers Mick.
