Paddy Galore!
Hi chaps, been going through my variation form and in the section that i list what new calibres i want, there is also a section which requires that i give an address/ phone number of a land owner. The thing is, i have an open ticket for all my guns including 22/250 so i can pretty much shoot anywhere that i have permission as long as i deem it safe to do so, do i need to fill this section in or not? albob
open ticket holder i know, still has to have land that is passed for the cal or cals he owns(reason to own rule),so i suspect you will have to name a land that is covered for that cal but, someone may come along and blow that out of the water. al

Paddy Galore!
Thanks fellas, it's my first variation since they opened up my licence, just wasn't 100% sure if the procedure was the same. going for 2x 22lr as replacements, 223 as a lower powered alternative to the 22/250, a 6.5x55 for target in the first instance, with a view to changing the conditions after dsc1. and a 7.62, purely for target. regards, gram. steve_b_wales
When applying for variations, I have never put where I shoot. This is only required when you renew your certificate. I found this out a few days ago when the FEO visited me and reminded me that I had not named any land.

wild-fire
remember if you are granted the larger calibres, you cant shoot deer with them unless it is stated on you ticket use on deer

I have an open ticket, but with accompanied deer stalking as a condition. So you can always ask for this, if stalking is new to you, like it is to me. al4x
a little tip here don't invite problems just apply and answer the questions later. If they are at all concerned you'll have a visit and you can discus options then, as far as deer are concerned you can say you are going to buy stalking to get a taste for it in company and you never know they may be happy with that. Billy.
what a damn good idea, thanks harford. i feel a telephone call coming on. did you have to nominate someone specific as a "mentor"? No. I was having a chat with the FEO and he asked how the open ticket thing would work without me having DSC1 and I just said to give me the condition that I can only stalk with an experienced stalker. There's no mention of who the mentor is, just says "accompanied whilst stalking" so in theory the wording means I can just be with another shooter In all honesty, I know very little about stalking. So I need someone to guide me; this I believe is something that can give the FEO some ground to trust you as you then don't come across as an arrogant person trying to get an open ticket. You look like you're willing to listen, learn and take guidance - which is just feeding them with good things to put on the report to their chief  Edited April 27, 2010 by harfordwmj
