chrispti
I have felt both but not fired them. The A400 feels better balanced and I think Beretta are leaps and bounds ahead with semi autos. Search the net for the spec on both guns, Beretta have put allot into the A400. Although the SX3 was and still is a very good gun, the Maxus is an improved version. You wont go wrong with either of them, much better than a crappy Benelli
Evil Elvis
I disagree fervently, browning semis are superb, i had a few and they have never let me down will fire anything and have low recoil,Ive yet to shot a berretta semi that i liked and Ive shot a few. If you cant afford a maxus look for a browning silver or gold fusion, both superb guns...........in fact I know someone who has a superb conditioned one, been in his cupboard for 2 years with no use, he wants £350, wooden stock, superb little gun!!! All the brands mentioned are worthy of being bought and used but with the Beretta and the Browning you can now use 24gram cartridges all the way up to 64gram 3 and half inch magnums. Depends on your budget aswell. The Beretta is a bit more expensive but i'm a Beretta fan so would say go for it

chezza1986
Ref Benelli, T'was a private joke with another forum member sir Oh, and my Xtrema2 cycled 24g cartridges flawlessly so nothing new there for the A400 My bad When I went to buy my semi I had to choose between the Xtrema2 and the Urika2. Price wasn't the issue it was what did I need the gun for and I was shooting clays a bit with an eye to get into pigeon shooting and maybe just maybe have a go at wild-fowling. The shop owner suggested the Urika2 as it could use 24-gram to 57-gram loads and that was what Beretta told them the gun would cycle every time with no problems but the Xtrema2 worked from 28-gram and upwards to big 3.5inch magnums. Not surprised your gun works with the lighter loads though as these are only factory suggestions for their " guarantee " cycle loads. COACH
I`v tested both and they are both superb. It has to be said though that the Beretta is over priced. Personally I would go for the Browning because it fitted me better but they both can be adjusted in minutes. I have a Urika 2 and I love it. I use it for some tuition and for pigeon shooting. I picked the Xtrema as I was using it for wildfowling mostly As you say about ''factory suggestions'' Benelli and the Winchester SX3 both say in their users manual to use 70mm cartridges but some people reported that their guns would reliably cycle 65mm /67mm without problems. Im not ruling out a Maxus either, I really like them, I guess Im in the same boat as John12, although the gun will be for me

Good choice mate After playing about with both guns, I found the Maxus felt uncomfortable to hold and didn't fit me , even when jacking the stock right up Plus, after doing some research on-line ref; Maxus problems, there seemed to be a few people that have experienced trigger problems B) Hurry up the synthetic A400

Evil Elvis
i tired the berreta and loved it, very light yes, but then im used to shoot ing a light gun (cynergy) if you are used to a heavier gun i can see how you would swing through targets until you got used to it. I had a go of a ladies a400 at jjs and hit 10 out of 10 on a half choke, i thought it handled brilliant and the recoil was suprisingly low and you didnt get the "ting" in your ear that you get from the ulrika!! Im still sorting the money out but you never know this browning fan may change!!!
onlyme
well there all good guns and it always comes down to fitment , i have a soft spot for the new browning because my first ever semi auto was a gold fusion and it was easily the best i have owned and regret trading it in, im considering a maxus sometime towards the end of this year in fac format when my old fac franchi finally gives up..... ive tried ulrikas , sx3s.. older berettas , there all ok and work well just the action length weight and recoil characteristics that differ, find one you like and fits you simples , just cleaning a gas semi auto !! always a pain in the a55!!! the maxus does look good though doesnt it
oscarsdad
i have a maxus...i have only shot with it once but it is a great little gun...minimal recoil and i was breaking clays with it from the first time i pulled the trigger...my only critiscism of it would be (and this is probably my fault being inexperienced with autos) that it doesnt fit in my cabinet unless I take the barrels off! i have the 71cm version. JONO
i dont no what it will shoot like but that new benelli looks the dogs b=====s with that new trigger gaurd and break down system As ugly as my spaniels, after he's been through gorse mind you... That's as nasty a piece of design as I've seen since that Fiat Multipla
