Frank
Tryd out the CZ .223 at different ranges today and was pleasently surprised. Started at 100, got half inch group with Federal Premium 40 grain Nosler ballistic tip factory ammo. Moved out to 200 and got a just less then 1 inch group. At 300, they opened out to 1 and a half, excellent, shall be using these for foxes i think. The Sako 50 grain and 55 grain SP, grouped 2 inches at 200yds, so did not go further with them. I stayed away from the 400 yd target after i missed it . :*) Will try next time once i get my ballistic chart sorted out and have more time, daylight ran out on us. Pic of 400 yd Target below. Frank
Magman, we put up a huge board, 5ft high and wide. Placed some shoot and see 8 inch round black bull on it. Spoted the hits with an old telescope for looking at the stars, works great.

markbivvy
drop at 300 is about, 5.2 with a hornady 40grn. vmax. .8 or 9 high at 100. or there abouts. approx. think its about 5.8 drop with the ammo frank was trying. Frank
I was 1 and a half inches high at 100, 1 inch at 200 and 6 inches down at 300. I would certainly take out a fox at that range, if the conditions are right, like they were yesterday. Thanks.
kip270
Frank, do you uae a rangefinder when lamping??
Frank
I have no range finder at the moment, its me mates. But am planing to get one soon, they are flaming expensive though, just have to keep saving. They are great when lamping, if its done right, sometimes they dont work too well at night. Have you got one kip?
kip270
Yes mate, Leica 1200, bought it in 2003 £320. Would not entertain going shooting without it now, whether it's decoying pigeon/stalking/foxing/rabbiting. Opens up a whole new world of shooting. deadeye ive
I purchased a Bushnell Yardage Pro (£150) from the states and after shipping and import fees still saved £70 Works well at night under a strong lamp though ...............As always you get what you pay for and this one is on the cheap side but seems to be up to the job. Frank
I must invest in one myself. Things are so expensive over here, twice the price of products in the UK. Kip, that Leica 1200 you got, sounds dead cheap, that would be around a 1000 Euro here. Leica are ment to be the best. My mother lives over in England, prehaps if i got her to get me one, it would work out cheaper.

I am sure the Lieca will have have the edge optically but for twice the price it ought to!

Dunkield
Frank, I am curious as to why you went for the 40grn and not the 55grn in the ballistic tips? Did you find they drifted at all, or was it nice and calm that day?
Frank
Hi stuart. 40 grain is all i had in factory that day and yes it was dead calm, one of those days where you can see chimeny smoke rising straight into the air. I will see if i can get some moere 55s Bt, they are scarse at present.
SNAKEBITE
As an airgunner it really is an eye opener when you see what a live round can achieve at these distances.

I am sure the Lieca will have have the edge optically but for twice the price it ought to! ******** the leica is far far the better range finder i've had 2 bushnells both of wich were in my eyes ****. the top of the range model the 1000 gave different readings for the same distance, the recticle was a circle, a large circle at that wich meant u couldn't get apropper range any one who has one will know what i mean. this model is even more expensive than the leica 1200. why, i dont know :o the leica will work at night with no problem as it has an illuminated recticle (a SMALL square) with which u can pin point your target. you dont need a bright light any one looking to buy a range finder dont do as i did and waste money on bushnells just go for a leica and save money in the long run............... Dunkield
Calm down Tommy, it's only a range finder! "this model is even more expensive than the leica 1200. why, i dont know" Only if you buy it in the UK, you should never buy Bushnell or Leopold kit the UK. Leica's are the dogs no doubt, but they are out of most people's range (get it?) or justification price wise.
Sargeant Bang
Tommy I think you're comparing chalk and cheese. Yes the Leica is good but then it ought to be for that stupid price. The cheap Bushnell's are fine, I've used a Yardage Pro/Scout many times, and they are fine, particularly for use at normal stalking distances, ie 100, 200, 300. If you're a stalker you'd be mad to spend Leica money. If you want to shoot at paper across 2 continents then Tommy's right, get the Leica. dunganick
leica are indeed the dogs danglies. tried a swaro one and it stopped working, too cold for it, leica was still going strong.
