Dangers of meteors

The vast majority of meteors burn up high in the atmosphere, never reaching the surface. Of those that do reach the surface, most fall into the ocean, and those that do fall on land almost always strike the ground harmlessly. It is very rare for any living creature to be struck by a meteor, but it does happen:

* In November 1954 a housewife in Alabama was struck by a 3-lb (1.4 kg) meteor that smashed through her roof, bounced off some furniture, and struck her in the hip as she lay sleeping. She received a large bruise but no other harm.

* In October 1992 a 26-lb (12 kg) meteor punched clear through the trunk of an automobile in Peekskill, New York, wrecking the aged Chevrolet (but also turning it into an instant collector's item that sold for over $20,000).

* In June 1994 a man driving near Madrid, Spain suffered a broken finger when a 3-lb (1.4 kg) meteor crashed through his car's windshield and smashed the steering wheel, ending up in the back seat.

The much greater danger of meteors is not from striking roofs and smashing windshields, but from the catastrophic effects of much larger meteors. Though most meteors that reach the Earth's surface are no larger than one's hand, once in a long while a really large meteor strikes the Earth, and such strikes are capable of enormous destruction.

There is a big display of small meteor's in Nat History museum, it is feasable, they are not all the size of uranus smashing into our earth.

The truck would not necessary be 'wiped out', just like a bullet from a rifle, except it is a hot rock, but the effect would be the same, piercing a hole in the soft steel body.

But I am still not sure.

WF

Sorry It's a fake possibly from a 4x4 truck commercial

Errors include:

1: The whistle of it coming in. There would be a delay, if even a small one, between seeing it and hearing it because of the speed of sound. (just like with fireworks)

2: The explosion goes straight up yet the meteor comes in from an angle and does not push debris away from the path line from where it came.

3: Guys start coughing before they would have gotten enveloped with dust.

WF, if you watch in slow mo you will see some debris coming down, as from a controlled explosion. Now if you have every fired an air-rifle into soft ground you will have noticed that the crater folds outwards and not up. So following the trajectory of the so called meteor on this clip, and the size of it, this would of spread dust along the ground at the camera mans feet for some distance. However the smoke and dust is falling from the sky above the so called meteor, and after careful studying of the clip there are two large white flashes before it strikes the ground.

Looks good though, and i've spent too much time studying it and have been told off :*) :*)
