another foxing session

Went out with chunkyed tonight in the hope we would see a few foxes.

There was no wind, and the grass was very wet.

First trip around the farm, we saw 2 foxes, but both were lamp shay, so there was no chance with them.

We headed round a few fields with not so much of a sniff.

After a lap of the farm, we headed to the house for a cup of tea, and planned to go out again after.

Tea drunk, jackets on, and back in the truck.

We headed back to 'the park' which has lots of oak trees in and around it. Across the field and behind one of the trees we could see 2 pairs of eyes.

Into the field we went in that direction. As we got closer, one of the pair of eyes made off at a high rate of knots, and the other was more reluctant to dissapear.

We got settled by another one of the trees and started to sqeak. No joy. The fox headed rather slowly to the hedge.

Out of the corner of my eye, I could see something move in the bottom of the next tree. It was fox cubs. That explained why the one didn't run like the other.

We waited patiently as the cheeky cubs kept popping up and watching us.

I took the filter off the lamp for a better look, we went closer and saw 2. Chunkyed shot the 2 cubs (the first he has EVER shot!) and we waited for the vixen to return.

After 2 and a half hours, we gave up and headed for home. I couldn't resist one last look across the field for piece of mind the vixen hadn't returned, she was behind us in the next field.

I turned the truck around and headed back to the tree with the den in it and played the waiting game again. After a very long 3/4 of an hour, she showed again, which was the last thing she did.

All in all, a very succesful night, we had the whole family.

Below is Edd with his first foxes :good:

Heck Chunkeyed, not happy with your first fox you had to get the double, nice one! Give yourself a big pat on the back.

Maybe that will stop them taking the pee out of your shooting now mate! :good:

Good job  Out of interest what carts were you using? as i know theres alot of different opinions on this and i like to keep track of what people are loading with when deliberately going for fox's (as opposed to catching them with the 5's or 6's they have in their gun on their shoot)

BB's mate but had some 36 gram number 3's in my pocket so let the cubs have them. As you can see it did the job :hmm:

I dont normally use bigger than 1's because you tend to lose pattern with bigger :hmm:

yeah they (bb's) seem to be the shot size of choice amongst most people, im on the look out for a standby cartridge for foxes rather than my usual loads, looking at getting some hull triplecrown buckshot 31g AAA's as im using a 65mm gun so am abit limited cartridge wise.

******edited got my facts and figures mixed up now looking at hulmax 34g 3's much better :hmm:, cant beleive i missed them (now i just have to see how they pattern)
