Hi guys, my neighbour who fishes but does not use the internet has asked me to get some help form you guys again (last time involved a bob church rod) he is looking at buying a float tube cost around £220 and basically is a swimming float that your legs dangle out of and you paddle around lakes and get to the best fishing spots.

Now can anyone advice on the pros and cons of using one of these. ANd if there are any decent ones out there. Have had a quick check on the ussual site to find one or two that involve shipping from U.S.

Tahnks in advance

Ive never heard of this before. So its basically a float you sit in, whilst fishing, so you can paddle around the water?

I take it hes not after carp or anything decent as I cant see him being in command of the situation with a good fish on, could be a long day out!

Did this a couple of years ago. Great fun!

I'm sure theres a british assocation. edit - Here

You will need neo waders and a life vest.

The V shaped boats are best, just pick a price.

You will need to check where will allow use though, few fisheries/resevoirs will allow them.

Will keep you fit.

I have fished for trout from a float tube in the US and its quite interesting, although your preoccupation tends to be the float tube and not the fishing.

Perhaps this goes away with practise.

Its quite intrusive unless the waters are a reasonable size, I can't imagine many of the UK trout waters permitting it.

Thanks for the info and any comments. It seems to be something you would do once or twice and then not bother any more. This was for lake fishing in a local stocked lake. I think he is going off the idea now anyway. :good:

I would think a small boat would be better

Lots of trout reservoirs allow them. That said, they are restrictive in that you need at least 4 feet of depth and they are quite slow compared to a boat and would be dangeous in fast rivers or the tidal sea . There's also the fact that your legs are dangling in cold water all the time.

I can't see the point myself. I have seen them used and spoken to lads who love them, but they are not for me. I've got a kayak for fishing off.
