laid cereal

Recommended Posts

Went shooting today on one of my permissions and as I was passing a nearby field on the way, I noticed some pigeons flying along side of me and the down across a field of beans to a field of cereal crop. So i stopped the car and had a look across the field from a break in the hedge. Stood and watched them for around 5 minutes and there must have been at least 200+ diving in, in groups of between 5 and 20 woodies in the 5 mins that I was watching alone. I could not believe it as ive not seen numbers like this for along time in the area. I was very happy to see that the field they were landing in is a shooting partners permission! Even more pleased when I rang him and we are now going to have a pop at them this sat!!! YESSSS hopefully they will still be there!

Going down later tonight to have a reccy and see where we are going to set up

I will post more on sat night to let you all know how we get on

:welcomeani:

PS sorry about the spelling mistake should be layed not laid :good:

Good luck.

Its interesting when reading some of the threads, the difference in the progress of the crops around the country.

There was a comment the other day about birds on laid barley.

In my area we have no cereal far enough forward to lay down, let alone attract the birds yet.

to go off what cranfield said;round my area the winter barley is tall and golden and is prone to going flat on my permissions.and over the years made some good bags on the said fields. i have seen a few going down on small layed patches but no chance of shooting over em at the moment would loose to many in the standing crop.

Cranfield , I think a lot of it depends on how early the cereals have been drilled and how much nitrates the barley has been dressed with . My farmer friend will allways drill at the very earliest opotunity as he always says that the corn wont grow in the bags . Incidently most of the barley on my farms is in the milky stage and is growing very fast .

Harnser .
